MB7220 Modem firmware

What version is comcast using and where will I find this information on my modem? I see "Software version" of: 7220 5.7.1.18

The *firmware* version and the "software" version are the same things.

The version number that you are seeing is what Comcast is currently pushing to and is loaded into the modem. Their system automatically keeps the firmware updated to the latest version that the manufacturer is currently supplying to them.

We regularly enhance the capabilities of the xFi Gateway by updating the software running on them — one of the many benefits of renting an xFi Gateway. Are you renting a modem?

FWIW. I don't believe that the 7220 is a rentable device. And it doesn't matter. Rented or customer-owned. Comcast is responsible for keeping a straight cable modem or a combo modem / router gateway device's  firmware load updated.

While Comcast mat be "responsible" for updates, they don't do every update for every modem, which wasn't my question in the first place. It was, what is the current version.... Anyway, evidently, every Sunday morning at 12:00 AM, they do "something" with the modem settings that cause it "sometimes" to mess with DHCP settings that cause the modem to change the IP address and other things. I am actually unsure it is xfinity but I have set my own fixed IP address and it is working fine at this time (about 4:00 PM Tuesday). Also, am currently on fixed income, retired, and I still will bet anybody about what goes on Sunday morning with xfinity; I mean, after all, I do own my own modem (bought earlier this year when it was a "supported" modem but is no longer supported), although, to be fair, I have bought a new "supported" modem; we'll see how long this one lasts (why or what is it with the MB7220 that's not supported?)

7220-5.7.1.18 is correct and what shows. If your IP is changing every Sunday that should not happen and is something we can take the steps to look into. The MB7220 is supported per speeds, but is and end of life model(soon no more updates) which we will recommend updating when it gets listed like that. Speeds are due to go up in the next year. I checked out your signal and there is a severe problem with the down receiver power and there are high t3 timeouts. It is isolated to your premise as your neighbors don't have these issues. Once you install your new modem we can take a look again and makes sure of the best path.

I get where your view on it. Speeds supported is only half the battle. The other stuff is above my pay grade, but is related to overall operation and we want to make sure every customer has equipment that won't bring issues. When I say we are raising speeds I mean they will be raised automatically. Most areas are going from 50 to 100 at no extra cost. Over time that will go up as well. I recommend a technician for the power issue to rule out any impairments.

@user_657d0b ,

um... I beg to disagree.

https://help.motorolanetwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/216091737-How-do-I-update-the-modem-firmware-

All firmware updates are handled by the Internet Service Provider.  Motorola provides your Internet Service Provider with the firmware update.  Once it passes all their testing, they push it onto the customer's cable modem via the coaxial cable.

There is no way for an end-user to update cable modem firmware manually.

XfinityEthan, thanks for your reply, the higher speeds of the modem are no concern for me as I am on a limited budget and am not planning on upgrading, (50 Mbps) is plenty for my needs, and it's not really my concern about what xfinity or "supported" modem manufacturers are making for every new modem purchased or rented. The problem with the "down receiver power" was mentioned in the outage call to xfinity; again, we'll see this Sunday (well also see how long my MB7220 can hold on, now that I know about the DHCP thing.).
