Mac Address filtering isn't working on XB7 Gateway

I just received the new gateway XB7 from xfinity, I was previously on the XB6 with no problems.  But now I'm having issues with my setup:

  • After activation, I logged into the XB7 device web page and added MAC addresses to the 2.4 GHz SSID, and the 5 GHz SSID lists in the Gateway->Connection->Wi-Fi MAC Address Filter setting page.
  • I then set the MAC filtering mode on both to ALLOW.
  • I then tried to log in and was not able to log in with any of the devices in the lists for either SSID
  • It does not allow any device NOT IN THE LIST from connecting, but during the attempt prompts for a password, then denies
  • Devices ON THE LIST are immediately denied access though.  No password prompt
  • Just for a sanity check, I set the MAC filtering mode to DENY.  That works and does allow devices not in the list to connect, but rather worthless for my preferred application
  • I also tried a hard reset/restore to the device default settings, no luck
  • As indicated, our previous gateway never had this problem

I know it's probably trivial and with WPA2-PSK (AES) probably not needed, but I like the second level of security along with a nice long password

Any ideas are appreciated OR any alternative security methods - Thanks!

Have you checked to see if both networks are enabled?

  1. Open the Xfinity app or visit https://comca.st/36ckocW and sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
  2. Go to the Connect tab.
  3. Select your network on the Xfinity app or select See Network on the xFi website.
  4. Select Advanced Settings.
  5. Select 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi.
  6. Select Edit next to the WiFi band you want to update.

Yup, both are enabled and in use.  I'v got the MAC Filter mode set to 'Allow All' on both SSIDs, but using some longer than average passwords ;)

That is definitely a good start, however we would want to help with allowing only the preferred MAC ID's to sign in without issue. I would like to take a closer look.

Of course! We're looking forward to hearing back from you.

I no longer work for Comcast.
