Looking for a modem that is compatible with our unlimited data package and is 100% WIFI-FREE

Hi,

We are a wifi-free home but have yet to fully resolve the issue of internet wifi. We recently upgraded to the unlimited data plan for internet. We do not want to activate this XB8 device we were sent, as it does not allow for 100% disabling of wireless emissions. My understanding is that is will continue to emit wireless signals for security systems and public wifi against our will. We only have ethernet cables and do not want wifi turned on at all.

We are looking for a solution and are not well-versed in these technologies. It appears there are a handful of cable modems that do not have built-in wifi tech in them that might work for us.

The modems in this link say they're compatible with our data plan:

https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned

Are these above linked cable modems in fact free of wifi?

If we opt for one of these cable modems that is recommend by Xfinity, are there any other equipment that we would need to pair with it to ensure we can route internet from the modem to our 2 PCs and Ipad in our home, like a switch? We still have an 8 port switch from netgear sitting around.

I tried coordinating this a couple of years ago and was misinformed by both comcast and netgear (they argued against one another in communication through me). I ended up with a Nighthawk and an 8 port switchto accommodate our 3 devices, but was never able to get internet routed to them all, only one. I was then told by comcast that I had the wrong equipment. I need to firmly confirm what the proper equipment is before moving forward.

For now, the best we could do was turn of the Hz in the Gateway to our modem/router, But the wifi emissions are still astronomical.

Can someone please assist? Thank you!

See the "All Compatible Devices" PDF linked near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment that link points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2025.03.06%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf, but this changes from time to time). The devices with "NO" in the "Built-in WiFi" column are modems that do not have a router component and do not transmit Wifi. You'll have to add a non-Wifi router to the modem if you need to connect more than one end device, as your switch won't work unless it is downstream from a router.

user_6hdn1w Hi there! Absolutely, and thank you so much for explaining your setup and preferences so clearly. We completely respect your decision to maintain a WiFi-free environment, and you’re not alone—more people are being mindful about wireless emissions, and we absolutely want to help make sure you get a wired-only setup that works smoothly with your Unlimited Data Plan.

Yes—the list of customer-owned modems you linked from Xfinity includes several true cable modems that are WiFi-free (meaning they do not have any built-in wireless radio at all). These are exactly what you want to look for. Devices listed as just a “modem” (not a “modem/router combo” or “gateway”) will be 100% Ethernet-based with no wireless functionality at all—no hidden WiFi, no emissions, nothing being broadcast. That’s the direction you want to go.

We hope this information helps. Let us know if you have additional questions or concerns.
