Internet speed nowhere near what is advertised

I have GigaBit internet plan which is estimating 1000 mbps download, but the past week or so I've been getting no where near that, usually around 90 mbps.

This is for ethernet connection, with xfi gateway modem/router.

I have GigaBit internet plan ... usually around 90 mbps. ... ethernet connection, with xfi gateway modem/router.

Speeds around 90 Mbps suggest a problem with the network connection, or the presence of a device (switch? network adapter? substandard [less than 5e] or defective Ethernet cable) that is rated for "Fast Ethernet" 10/100 Mbps speeds instead of Gigabit 1000 Mbps speeds.

What speed do you get when you run the Xfinity app "speed to gateway" test? See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/test-speed-to-gateway-xfinity-app.

If I test connection to gateway, I do get over 1000 mbps, what can I do to improve the speed to device? I don't see how an ethernet connection could reduce the speed so much

Hey @user_f8d87e, thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Support on our forums. Thank you as well @BruceW for the great questions and information. I do agree that is definitely a lower connection than there should be through ethernet. Have you tested it over WiFi to see if the speeds are the same?
