Internet Plan WiFi Device Limits

I have recently been told that my current internet plan with Xfinity has a 12 device limit. (I have the XB7. The technical specs say it has a 75 device limit. So this is definitely the plan.)

Since we have certain devices tied to HVAC and Solar which we cannot disconnect and 4 people in the house hold, we have recently regularly reached that limit.

However, I cannot find any documentation through the websites or forums about which plans have what device limits.

So I have a few questions:

  1. Where (if anywhere) are these limits advertised? I only see specification on plan speeds on the website.
  2. Is it possible to upgrade the max devices without upgrading the whole plan?
  3. When and why were these limits put into place? In modern times, 12 devices is NOT a lot for a household with 4 or more people. (Computer and smart phone for each plus Kindles and smart TVs and/or streaming sticks like Fire or Roku eat those up quickly.)

Hello and welcome to Comcast @scottm1. Thank you so much for reaching out to us today regarding the limit of devices that can connect to the modem. Now with the XB7 modem you have, you can connect up to 75 devices. You can see the modem information on our website at Overview of Xfinity Gateways. Now some Internet speeds are good for a certain amount of devices connected to the internet. It could be that you have a lower internet tier that is only good for 12 devices. You might need to upgrade your internet speed tier to avoid any slow connectivity.

I did update my internet to a newer tier. I was using an outdated tier.

However, that didn't clear up the issue.

I was still having issues with one Windows 11 laptop and one Roku stick.

I updated some drivers on the laptop and that seemed to clear up BOTH issues.

I have no idea why updating the wifi drivers on one device would have any beneficial ramifications for another completely different device, but here we are.

Hey there, scottm1, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your connection. I am happy to hear that updating the drivers on your laptop helped with your connection. Is everything working for you now?

When I got the X8 gateway, I was told there was a 100 device limit. Now I am being told that my Superfast internet plan only allows for 11 devices connected simultaneously and that the maximum, with any plan is 15 devices. With multiple computers, tablets, Kindles, thermostats, security systems, etc. connected, 15 is way too few. I can't find anywhere on the Xfinity website that states that different internet plans have different device limits. Comcast seems to want to keep that a secret.

@Emy22

Please create a new topic of your own here on this board detailing your issue. Thanks. The original poster has not returned. 6-month-old dead thread is now being closed.

For future reference, it is better to submit your own post as it creates a ticket to get help, and posting on someone else's older thread can delay getting help.
