Internet parental controls

Nothing is being blocked.  I set up a profile in Xfinity for my child, assigned his devices to the profile, and turned on parental controls in his profile.  I did an experiment to see whether it is working, entering a few known adult website addresses in a web browser, and they come up with adult content!  I really don't want to install a third party control (ie Disney Circle) if I don't have to, would prefer to use Xfinity parental control...if it would work!  Can anyone crack the code on this problem?

Greetings @user_2ed1c4 and thanks for reaching out. I know how important it is to make sure parental controls is working correctly. How many devices are assigned to your son's profile? Have you tested each device to see if the restrictions are enabled?

You'll find a lot of posts from others who are also seeing Parental Controls don't work. It's just broken, and Comcast isn't being transparent on when this will be fixed. Since you can't rely on a large corporation to protect your family, this is what I did:

  1. Buy another router. I have a Netgear mesh router, only because I wanted to have a WiFi mesh in my home. But any router that will cover your home will do.
  2. Connect that router to your Xfinity Gateway modem/router.
  3. Go to OpenDNS Family Shield, and take note of the Name Servers. (https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/)
  4. On the router, change the DNS settings to point to OpenDNS.
  5. Move all your devices to use the new router
  6. On your Xfinity Gateway, change both the admin password and the WiFi password (make sure you write them down)
  7. If you can, on your Xfinity Gateway, disable broadcasting the SSID of the WiFi network

So in my house, everyone's mobile and laptop devices connect to the Netgear router. I have configured it to use OpenDNS, so it is filtering all websites. All my home sensors (cameras, doorbell, alarm system) I kept connected to my Xfinity Gateway.

This was the only solution I could do until Comcast fixes its [Edited: "Language"] Parental Controls.

I hope this helps!

FWIW, if you do what was suggested above, the Comcast gateway device should be put in to full bridge mode, not just disabling WiFi / broadcasting.

I would get yourself a different router with better security and actual parental controls because yeah the Xfinity one just does not work. I've been looking into this trying to use it to block one website to keep me from being distracted. I blocked it on http://, I blocked it on https://, I blocked all the known IP addresses and some mirrors. Still didn't do anything. The Xfinity Router/parental controls are garbage/worthless/do absolutely nothing is what it appears.
