Internet Drops Everyday at same time - 3pm US EST

Each day, right in the heart of my work day (I work from home), my internet drops at roughly 3:00pm - 3:05pm. This is not ideal and causes work meetings to drop. I have tested that this is not my router gear by unplugging everything and plugging directly into the modem only, and indeed I have no intenet. It does comes back in roughly 5 mins, but this is not ideal. I have read Comcast has near daily reboots for schedueld maintenance, etc but heard these are in the overnight hours around 3am. Is it possible, my account/modem is set to pm instead of am. This is becoming a real pain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for sharing all those details — we know how frustrating it is to lose your connection, especially right in the middle of your workday!

You’re right that most of our scheduled maintenance and reboot windows typically happen overnight, around 3 a.m., not 3 p.m. So it’s unlikely your modem or account is set to the wrong time, but something definitely seems off here.

Since you’ve already ruled out your router by testing directly with the modem (which was a great step, by the way), here are a couple of things we can check next:

  • Check for local maintenance — You can log into the Xfinity app or My Account online to see if there’s any afternoon maintenance showing up in your area.

  • Look at your modem’s event logs — Some modems have logs you can access at http://10.0.0.1 (or your specific gateway’s IP). Look for recurring “T3” or “T4” timeout errors around 3 p.m., which can point to a signal issue.

  • Inspect cables and connections — Even though this feels like a scheduled event, it’s worth double-checking that coaxial cables are finger-tight and there’s no damage to the lines outside your home.

Give these a try and let us know how it goes! We are happy to assist further if needed.
