Incorrect assigned IP address
I am getting terrible slow Internet all over the house. The reason is that recently I have been assigned an IP address out of CT, I am in CO... I have 174.63.64.x.hsd1.ct.comcast.net (the ct indicating Connecticut). I have gigabit unlimited service but am getting slightly over 100Mbps the last couple of days
When i do speed tests the select servers option gives me servers in MA, NE etc...which is completely wrong, I was able to select servers in CO previously Colorado Springs, Denver etc... but not any more, something has changed and now I have to travel way across the country before I get out to the Internet. So playing Fortnite i use westcoast servers but I have to got all the way to the eastcoast and then back to the westcoast.
How do I change my WAN ip address that is provided by Comcast to my cable modem?

Ok so I had a tech out and here is the solution to what I thought was a geolocation problem. Plugging my laptop to the cable modem I pulled a local IP and was happy-out. I grabbed the IP details with ip config/all on windows and applied that to my router WAN interface as a static IP. Back working now fine and location is CO as expected. No idea why or how Comcast assign DHCP IP but I tried two routers and got Boston IP, tried two laptops and got correct CO IP.

FWIW. The public / WAN assigned IP addresses are tied to the MAC addresses of devices. Different MAC addresses pull different IP addresses from their DHCP pool. Some of the IP addresses have incorrect rDNS / geolocation information that is associated with them.
Some of those IP addresses belonged to other customers that lived in different geographic areas. They got assigned to your connection. Comcast shuffles blocks of IP addresses around the country all the time. ISP's don't correct this. A third party service does. Unfortunately, this is typically a *back-burner* thing to get corrected. The only thing that you can do is to report it if you wish. You can try this;
https://support.maxmind.com/geoip-data-correction-request/
http://www.ipligence.com/contact/
https://www.ip2location.com/contact/
https://www.home.neustar/contact-us
https://support.google.com/websearch/contact/ip/
Wait for the geolocation provider to approve your request. If your request is approved, the amount of time it takes to see the correction varies by provider. The average is a month or more.
