I'm not getting the connection speed I am paying for

I am supposed to be getting 1200 mbps connection speed through the Xfinity Gateway modem/router combo however I can only come close to that if I use an ethernet hardwire connection to my device. If I attempt connecting through my WiFi I can only reach speeds of 300mbps at best on all my devices. Why am I only getting the speeds I am paying for through a hardwire connection and not through wi fi?

Hello, @user_jpe48h Wi-Fi connections are not guaranteed due to latency and other potential forms of interference that can slow down your connection. It is best to use a hardwired connection for this very reason. That being said the speed you are getting is pretty low even for a Wi-Fi tier of 1200 Mbps. Can you tell me what device, make, and model you are testing the speed on? How far away from the modem are you on this Wi-Fi connection?

I have the latest Xfi Gateway modem/router. I'm in a small 1 bedroom apt and the Xfi is located in the living room 20 ft from any devices I may be using. When I hardwire my laptop I connect at 900mbps but if I disconnect the ethernet cable and use wifi I connect at only 350 mbps. Why such a drop? The Gateway obviously is working as it gives me 900 mbps through the ethernet connection. Is there an adjustment I can make in the Gateway settings to increase wifi speeds?

@user_jpe48h Have you tried power-cycling the gateway and your device? Forgetting the network and then reconnecting to it may have a positive effect as well.

Please create a new topic of your own here on this board detailing your issue. Thanks. The original poster has not returned. 4-month-old dead thread is now being closed.

For future reference, it is better to submit your own post as it creates a ticket to get help, and posting on someone else's older thread can delay getting help.
