I can't connect my Epson Wireless printer to my new Modem (XB8)

I have been on the phone with Xfinity for 3 days and no one has been able to help me with this issue.    The printer connects to my network (but is offline and can't print)  - Epson told me the new modem is NOT assigning a IP address to the printer and this is the issue, but no one can tell me how to fix it.    VERY FRUSTRATED!     Any suggestions?

NOTE:  The XB8 Modem is new and was an upgrade Comcast suggested due to our old modem being dated.   Everything worked FINE on that Modem which we have already returned to the Xfinity store.    All our other devices are connected with no problem.   We even tried to ADD the printer as a new printer, but our wireless network is unable to "find" this printer.   It continues to show it's "offline" and therefore we can not print.

Hello @Leeza, thank you for working with our phone team, and for coming to our forum for support. I'd love to help get your printer connected, and I'll do all that I can for you. Do you get any error messages when you try to connect your printer to your network?

I have spent hours on the phone with Tech Support -- the printer is NOT recognized on my Network ever since we upgraded the Modem.   Two different reps told me they would research this further and call me back, but never did.

I have also contacted Epson and it's not a printer problem it's a conflict with the new Modem which apparently is not compatible with some devices.   Sure WISH they had told me this may happen before we upgraded to the new Modem and HOPE Xfinity will come up with a solution.    Now, I'm stuck without a working printer!

Hey @SNUFFY1950,

Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Community Forums support page. We appreciate you sharing your experience and can most certainly help in any way that we can. I do apologize, but we are not experts on specific make and model printers. If you have specific information and specifications about the printer that you can provide us, please let us know and we could certainly help try and point you in the right direction.

I WISH they had told us this was going to happen before we upgraded the Modem!  I spent hours on the phone with Tech Support and FINALLY at the end, learned there is NOTHING that can be done.   The new Modem is not compatible with older devices.   Grrr!!

It is really incredible how many customers are having this issue with Epson printers and Xfinity obviously never tested the new modems with Epson printers.

I am ready to buy a new printer but I want to make sure it is compatible with the XB8. Does Xfinity offer any resources that can point me to a printer that will work?

Hey @SNUFFY1950  that's awesome you're getting a new printer for the home! We don't offer any direct resources or reviews, but just about any home printer will work via Wi-Fi or direct ethernet plug-in.

Feb 2024 Same problem. Older Epson printer won't connect over WiFi to new (white) Xfinity modem. Printer worked fine with old black modem but black modem was already returned to store.
Two solutions worked for me:

1. Use ethernet cable (conveniently provided with the white modem) to directly connect printer to white modem. Disable WiFi on the printer. Check network settings from printer multiple times in succession until modem provides a private IP address to printer such as 10.0.0.123 or 192.168.0.123. (But NOT 169.254.X.X which isn't going to work).

2. If you can get solution 1 to work, but you want to use the printer in a location away from the modem such as another room, then obtain an Xfinity wifi extender "pod". Xfinity sells them. These have Ethernet sockets on them just like the modem. So you plug both the pod and the printer into a power outlet at some remote location. Then use the Ethernet cable to connect the pod to the printer, similar to solution 1. The pod communicates wirelessly with the modem but you need to configure the printer as for solution 1 (ie as if the printer were connected directly to the modem with the Ethernet cable. Again, you may have to "check network settings" several times before a valid IP address is delivered to the printer (automatic DHCP assignment). You end up being able to print over a "pod WiFi and Ethernet" combo to the remote printer; the pod converts the WiFi into Ethernet for the last link in the chain to the printer.

I have a similar but not exactly the same problem. Xfinity upgraded my Business Account modem with one that combined 2.4 and 5 under one name. I ended up going into the gateway and giving them separate names already because of the way we use it. My computer (I have an iMac (late 2015)) will tell the printer to print and it will print so no issues with that. However, the scan feature will only work from ScanSmart on my computer now. If I try to use the scan feature on the printer's touch pad, both the printer and  the computer tell me there is a communication error. It worked fine before the modem was switched out. I've restarted both devices several times. I have totally unplugged it all waited about 10 minutes then plugged it all in. I've totally uninstalled the printer then reinstalled it. It still didn't work so I thought that it might need to be started so I restarted both devices after reinstalling. It worked once AND showed me the communication error on the printer touch pad. The computer didn't show the error message. It wouldn't do it a second time though.

I can use the computer to scan, but it's faster for me to just use the touch pad on the printer. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Does this issue occur when trying both the 2.4 and 5 connections,
user_o67w6l?
