HP WiFi printer stopped connecting to WiFi

New HP Deskjet 4155e was connected to WiFi and working, but a few hours later in the day the connection had dropped and it won't reconnect. Spent an hour online with an HP technician and he finally said he is getting an error that indicates the ISP is preventing the connection.  Now, a second HP Deskjet Plus 4155, in the same house has dropped its connection and won't reconnect.

Help?

The two WiFi bands SSID's have recently been combined into one with the Comcast gateway devices. Some devices get confused and don't know how to see / talk to combined SSID's.

If you are not using any Xfi Pods, you can try separating the 2.4 and the 5.0 names and give them two different broadcast names / SSID's;

Associate the printers with the new 2.4 band's SSID (broadcast name) and password.

Thanks, EG, for the suggestions.  The WiFi router is my own CPE (Netgear Nighthawk AX4 AX3000).   The router is set for separate SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5.0 bands.  One printer has been in service on the 2.4 band for several months.  The second printer installed easily and worked for two days, before dropping its connection mid-day on Friday.  Now, neither will connect to the WiFi network.  I've cycled power, several times, on the printers as well as the cable modem (also my CPE) and Nighthawk router.  I have 18 devices connected to the network, some on each band, and none of the other devices are having connection problems.

Any other ideas are welcome!

Those HP printers may have Wi-Fi Direct. It does not involve the need for a router or gateway.

Read the HP manual for setup directions.

Yes, the printer has Wi-Fi direct, but I still need Internet connection to the printer.  If for no other reason, it's required for the Instant Ink service.

I was able to finally solve this issue (i.e., my OfficeJet 8600 stopped connecting after upgrading to XB8 modem).  The older printers can not accommodate the higher security standard of the xb8, which has the default setting of WPA3.  I used the xfinity app and selected Connect, then clicked on WiFi networks, and the little pencil symbol in the upper right to edit settings.  I selected the 2.4GHz SSID/band and lowered the Security Mode to WPA2.  Voila, the printer is now able to connect again. Unfortunately, no one at Comcast was able to help me with this issue.  They also said something was probably wrong with the printer.  The lesson here is to beware of the conclusion that something is wrong with your "third party device" when the only thing that made it stop working was a change of xfinity equipment.

p.s., before I figured out this solution, I had tried 1) adding the MAC address of the printer to the gateway WiFi control list manually (FAILED), 2) doing WPS setup with the push button method (FAILED) and 3) doing WPS setup with the pin method (FAILED).  None of these solutions worked because the issue was that the security setting of the network was too high for the printer.

@dariatorres   I also have an OfficeJet 8600.  Thanks for the advice.  I opened my xfinity app, clicked on connect and changed the Security Mode to WPA2 as you suggested.  I could not find a way to select the lower 2.4GHz SSID/Band.  But the good news it the printer now prints and can Scan to Computer, which I use alot.  I was at my wits end as was ready to buy a new printer.  This 8600 still works perfetly (can't scan to email - that's a different issue) so you saved me a bunch of money.  Thanks again.

I had sorta similar problems with a Canon printer after changing routers.
In my case the problem was fixed by turning off energy saving mode for the printer's wifi connection.

The HP printers require the 2.4 GHz band.  Your gateway / router might be using only the 5 GHz bND.

@MNtundraRET That is true, but in my case I was already trying to use the 2.4 GHz band.  The issue was its security mode (WPA3).  My printer (HP Officejet 8600) can only handle up to WPA2.  Once I changed the security setting, everything worked fine.
