HP Printer Connectivity via WiFi

My HP printer (three months old) is not staying connected to wifi network.  It connects fine when I go through the wifi setup, then after a few hours or a few days, will drop off and remain offline despite restarting gateway, powering off printer and restarting my Mac desktop. Each time the connectivity drops, I am forced to go through the wi-fi setup process.  I am using the Xfinity modem/router. I believe this is a common problem, but I don't see how to lock in a static IP so the printer knows how to stay connected. Help? Thanks in advance.

Possibly a firmware update needed for the printer?

If the printer does not have a DHCP  reservation on your router or ptinter (dedicated IP address ) set up one

Try this;

Log onto gateway
Go to Connected Devices > Devices
Next to your device in list select EDIT button

Under Edit Device
Configuration:
( ) DHCP
(*) Reserved IP
MAC Address:             [43:A5:37:2C:5A:1A]
Reserved IP Address: [10.0.0.2]

You have to set the Reserved IP Address value the same as the value you set on the device itself.

You may have to reboot the device for the change to go in effect.

The Reserved IP Address is the same thing as a Static IP Address
The Reserved IP Address must be in the range shown at:

Gateway > Connection > Local IP Network
