How do I Disable xFi and get my permissions back to Port Forward & to Create a DMZ???
For years now, Xfinity has been trying to Force xFi on me and my system. Once or twice per year, I have had to call tech support, get bumped up to a higher tier of support, talk to a manager, and request that they remove xFi from my xfinity modem/router, and give me back my permissions to Port Forward & to create a DMZ. This has worked every time until just recently, when again, Xfinity changed my admin settings, disabling my ability to Port Forward & to cerate a DMZ, telling me instead, "Managing your home network settings is now easier than ever.
Visit xfinity.com/myxfi to set up port forwards, among many other features and settings." I have NO DESIRE to use xFi, as I have my two computers, wired to the modem/router, using ethernet cables, NOT WI-FI. For the last 18+ years, I have been designing/creating a mini-mod for Battlefield 1942, and I need the ability to Port Forward & to Create a DMZ, so that I can run a Dedicated Server, host Maps/Levels, and Join said maps/levels as a client. However, this time around, when I called Xfinity tech support, and spoke to a manager, they informed me that they could not disable xFi, nor give me my permissions to Port Forward & create a DMZ, back to me. After calling a couple of other times, I was able to reach another manager, that told me they had fixed the issue, and that I now had my permissions back, but it was either just another lie, or they didn't know what the heck I was talking about. I thought that Human Users were supposed to be in control of the computer systems, not the other way around.
Does anyone know a work around here, or how to Disable xFi and allow me permissions to Port Forward & to create a DMZ??? Please, please help me with this issue!!!!!
Thank You,
Joshua

A suggestion.
Instead of renting an xfinity gateway, perhaps look into getting something else. Then, you control it.

You are paying $14/month = $168/year or perhaps $25/month = $300/year. There's a budget to work with.
Modem vs Gateway? If you are running internet accessible equipment, you are going to want to protect both the external (DMZ) and internal network 'by other means'. Usually a combination of the external public facing server itself, combined with an additional multi-port firewall to split the networks and handle the firewall routing rules. You don't want a single consumer grade modem or gateway doing the security for your use case. A couple of layers is really recommended here.
I don't even use the WiFi on a gateway (made by anyone) for an example. Radio Off on a gateway is a feature I require because none of them have decent WiFi monitoring. All of them also have exploits that pop up. Netgear just had two back to back weeks of them disclosed on cisa.gov, but they all have had them. I expect they will all get compromised at some point, but then you still have the additional firewall when that happens and can see it. If you open up a port on anything, now you are a target and should expect some abuse.
Make sure you check out the manuals for whatever you get before you buy it, just to make sure it has you want. Modems (no wifi), might not have features like rudimentary, ''sort of" DoS/portscan protection or basic routing capability. Decent firewall you can buy or make. A lot of options there both paid and open source.
