home network router hostname

I have Comcast internet service and I can see that I am a part of the comcast domain : hsd1.wa.comcast.net. How can I find out the specific hostname that points to my IP address/my home network router in that domain? Secondly if I had that hostname could I reference my home network using <hostname>.hsd1.wa.comcast.net from anywhere on the internet?

... How can I find out the specific hostname that points to my IP address/my home network router in that domain? ...

Entering my public IP address in a Command Prompt window works for me, like so:

    nslookup {IP address}

returns

    Name:    c-{IP address}.hsd1.pa.comcast.net

... if I had that hostname could I reference my home network using <hostname>.hsd1.wa.comcast.net from anywhere on the internet?

You should be able to, yes.

Hi, @user_f8e19d. You can find all available info via the Admin Tool http://10.0.0.1

@XfinityJay That admin interface is not accessible to me. What does it refer to? For my home network I use a Linksys router and I am very familiar with its admin interface. Please elaborate.

Gotcha. To confirm, are you attempting to perform a reverse DNS lookup? You can also find your hostname using the Command Prompt on a Windows device. This can be referenced anywhere on the internet.

@XfinityJay, yes, that is what I am trying to do but not for my Windows PC, for my Linksys router which is connected to the Comcast network. My Windows PC is behind my router and not visible outside my home network. I can see the IP address assigned to my home network by the Comcast (DHCP?) server, but is there a device name also mapped to that address? "hsd1.wa.comcast.net" is the domain name assigned to my router by comcast, So is there an address (like <my router id>.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) that can be used to get to my router from the internet? Really appreciate your taking time to reply.

Quick and dirty way to see what your Xfinity assigned IP address is?  From a machine/device hooked up to your network:  https://whatismyipaddress.com/

Click on the IPV4 address link on that page, and it will show you a pointer (PTR) name.  Likely c-xx-xxx-xxx-xxx.hsdx.[state abv].comcast.net.  From the weberverse, you can use this name to find your gateway.  Now this IP address can change at any time, but likely doesn't very often.

@flatlander3 , thanks for your reply, but I am not looking for the IP address, I am trying to find out if there is a host name+domain name (like: <router id>.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) which can be used to get to my router (i.e. my home network) from the internet.

@user_f8e19d Have you attempted to log in to the Lyksis interface and see what devices are connected?

I no longer work for Comcast.

@user_f8e19d The xxxx.hadx.comcast.net is the PTR name you are looking for, and the link I provided will tell you what it is currently if you click on the IPV4 link on that page. (unless you are using an anti-virus utility that uses a VPN or sets up/redirects through a proxy of some kind).
