Help Resolving a DDNS setup issue.

I've used DDNS To access my home cameras before, but it's been a few years, and I'm still basically a rookie at it. Also, this is the first time I've ever been on XFINITY. So I got the IP  address from my router (I'm using a Netgear 6400), and set it up with No-IP. It looks something like 73.152.xxx.xx . I did this several weeks ago but have not been able to resolve it using the port check tool.

So this morning after doing a little research I ran the command line ns lookup, and received a totally different address:

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    pulxxxxxjo.ddns.net
Address:  34.xxx.8.144

So now I am totally confused. That shows as an Amazon web service address.

So what's the trick to accessing my IP cameras while I'm away?

I should mention that although my IP address appears to be a static address, that I must treat it as a dynamic one and already understand about regularly updating the address using the No-Ip tool provided.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, @artworksmetal. I appreciate you reaching out to us using this platform. I hope you like it and continue looking for support with us moving forward.

You'll need to subscribe to our business account if you're looking for a static IP address for your home cameras. Otherwise, you will continue to receive a different IP address when using the ns lookup tool.

Thank you Raul for your response.

I thought the point of using A DDNS  was so you can access your home network even if it does not have a static address. Surely Of the 30 million or so XFINITY customers without business accounts, Some of them are accessing their home network cameras, NAS, etc.

So maybe I am asking the wrong question?

I just looked at your business account options and it looks like the cost is about the same, or even less if I sign a two or three year agreement. Is that all I need to do? I am using a non-XFINITY cable modem.

That is a great question! If you are interested in setting up a business account, we can help direct you to do that. There are differences in services and the address will need to be updated as a business location but we can certainly get that done for you. Due to the way that business accounts are structured, it has to be handled through the Comcast Business support line 800-391-3000. Would you be interested in reaching out to them directly to go over additional details and what it may take to set this up?

I no longer work for Comcast.

If the hostname that is supposed to represent one of your DDNS devices is returning an Amazon address, your DDNS is misconfigured in some way. The address that is returned should be your home Comcast Internet address, available on your home system at https://www.google.com/search?q=my+ip.
