Have to reboot modem multiple times a day to regain speed

I have the gig extra plan with a xb8 modem but rarely get near my speed unless it's right after rebooting the modem. Then later on I'll check it and it's slow again. (800+gbps) Is there anything I can look into/test before I have to get a service call? TIA

@EG Seems like I might've found one problem. Checked my signals and it only showed 1 up and 1 down channel? Rebooted it and now I have 6 up but 0 down? Is this a problem?

Hmmm. That's odd. The device may be malfunctioning. There's one more thing to try before getting swapped out for another by them. Try hard resetting the device to factory defaults by pressing and holding in the recessed reset button on the rear (or use the WPS button if it doesn't have a reset button hole) for 30 seconds. This can sometimes clear up some weird behavior issues. You will lose any customized settings, and they will need to be re-configured from scratch.

@EG I'll give that a shot. If it is malfunctioning how do I go about swapping it? Just take it in or do I need to get a tech out first? Thanks for the help.

Tried it and it's still the same. Taking the modem in today to swap it out and hope that's my problem.

Nope. Just got the new modem going and there's no difference. Guess I gotta get a tech out here.

Sorry for the delay. Tech came out and found a problem in the box on the house and tested the cable going into the gateway and got 1300+ down and 70+ up. I'm getting around 1100-1200 down and 40 up now so hopefully it'll stay that way.

Modem still shows a random number of up/down channels though. He didn't seem to think that was a issue.

Well, maybe I spoke too soon. Just tested using xfinity speed test and got 993 down and 9 up.

You'll need to get the techs involved again until the issue gets fixed properly. Bear in mind that if the premises facing techs can not find or fix a problem at your home, it is they who are responsible for escalating it up to their line / network / maintenance dept. techs. The problem may lie beyond your home in the local neighborhood infrastructure somewhere but it is their S.O.P. to start at the home. And if the problem is found to be on their side of the demarcation point, there will not be any charge.

Good luck !

Looks like I'm gonna have to. I was getting more stable 900/40 speeds on the old Superfast 800 plan with my old equipment. Now it just bounces up and down.

dn1965 Looks like EG was helping you out and I would agree on getting an additional tech out if you are still having issues. If you need assistance with getting an appointment set up please let me know!
