Giving a friend my old cable WiFi router
Are there any issues with transferring used equipment to another Xfinity subscriber? I have a friend who's planning to move abroad in a few months, has a fairly low Internet speed and is having some trouble with his ancient equipment. I have a spare Arris SVG2482AC. DOCSIS 3.0 24x8, AC/WiFi 5, and better than what he has. It was used on my account for several years until I upgraded my home network, bumped my internet speed to Gigabit Extra (1200/35) and replaced it a few months ago. Would he have any trouble activating it? Is there anything I need to do to release it?

@zandor60657 Customers can purchase their own modem and use it on our network. All compatible modems/routers can be found here: https://comca.st/3zKvQJA. This list is constantly being updated, so be sure to double check it. If it is on the approved list, we will just need to make sure it is completely removed from your account.

Contact a customer service rep about this. If it isn't already, make sure that the rep completely removes the device's MAC address from your account in their backend database.

If you did not purchase that router, it needs to be returned to Comcast. If not returned, you will billed for it each month like currently.

It's a retail device. I bought it at Best Buy. It even says it's a customer owned retail device on the label on the bottom of the device. Looks like giving it to my friend is a no-go since he has basic business service and Comcast Business only allows modems as customer owned equipment (so no combo cable WiFi Routers), though I think I might have to bother someone about removing it from my account because I keep getting emails about needing to upgrade my equipment. I have a NetGear Nighthawk CM2050V, Gigabit Extra (1200/35) and voice service, but something thinks my modem is too slow even though I'm getting ~1430/40 on a speed test.
