Enable Mac Filtering

I just received a new modem, the XB7 and when logging in on the Wi-Fi page, the Mac filtering does not show up. How can I get this enabled? I need to filter out Mac addresses and IP‘s to prevent access to the modem via ethernet. My son continually changes his addresses to get around my XFI settings.

Hello, @Phillm80, I apologize Mac Filtering is not showing up. I would start simple and log out of your routers interface and log back in. I would also sign in on a few devices to see if it shows up. Are you in the "Connection" section while trying to view Mac Filtering?

@XfinityJosephA I’ve logged in multiple times on my phone and iPad with the same results. This is under the connections button then under WiFi on the modem.

Thank you so much for those additional details! Just to confirm, you are trying the following steps,

  1. Scroll down until you see MAC Filter Setting.
  2. You can also control it per SSID as well, if they are separate.
  3. Change MAC Filtering Mode to Allow.
  4. Manually input the MAC Addresses or click add on ones that were automatically learned.
  5. Save the changes.

Mac filtering is not showing up. That’s the issue.

@Phillm80 some other things that come to mind are to try using a device that is connected directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable and reset the modem. Are you able to give this a try?

Well I was able to see it on my laptop. I made sure I connected via WiFi first to add my address. I then set everything on 2.4 and 5 to all and not allow all. I cannot find any setting on the modem for his computer as it is connected via Ethernet.

I tried to do a reserved IP setting on the modem and changed his IP to something else. I wasn’t sure what that would do but it still connected fine. Am I just stuck not being able to block Ethernet?

@Phillm80 that's great that you got the Mac filtering option to show up on your PC. I apologize, there's not going to be a feature that allows you to disable Ethernet. This is something you might need your own equipment to pull off. The best thing you can do is use the xFi app to manages devices. I know you said your son works around this. Are you wanting to block all traffic coming from the PC he's using, 100% of the time?
