Delayed Ethernet Connection
Hoping someone here can help with an issue I recently started having.
I have Xfinity's CGM4140COM gateway and the 1000 Mbps speed plan. I have my 1-year old HP deskstop, running the latest version of Windows 10, connected directly to the gateway via ethernet. About a week ago, I noticed that whenever I awaken the HP from the sleep mode, it takes 10-15 seconds for the PC to connect to the internet. Up until last week, the PC would connect almost instantaneously. I've rebooted the PC and power reset the gateway. I ran the Xfinity Speed Test just for the heck of it, and it's fine.
I'm wondering if this is more of a Windows, HP, driver or settings issue, rather than a gateway issue?
While it's not a major issue, it is kind of a pain when you're used to just hopping on the keyboard and jumping on the internet. Waiting a few seconds is not big deal, but 10-15 seconds isn't right.
Anyway, would welcome any thoughts/input out there.

This morning I received a message from Amira that this problem is being handed off to the "Advanced Repair Team." Apparently their first step will be to probe my gateway remotely to gather some information. Perhaps they will want to do the same with others who have reported this problem. So it is receiving attention.
Several additional people have reported this problem during the past few days by posting here. I suspect that the problem is affecting many, many more people than just those of us who have posted about it; my guess is that most Comcast/Xfinity customers don't even know these support forums exist.
So I'm happy that Comcast has been responsive and I'm hopeful that a solution will be found soon.

Thanks, Steve. Agree that there are probably many people experiencing the issue, but don't know about the Comcast Forums. I suspect those who do have the problem are thinking it's a Windows issue and are looking elsewhere for help. That's how I started the troubleshooting process. Like I think you said before, it could be a combination of Windows and Comcast.
I also received a message from Amira this morning. She wants to send some signals to my modem, which will take me offline for supposedly 10 mins or so. Once she's collected the data she needs from various users, the problem will be handed off to the Advance Repair Team.
Here's hoping they're successful!

Whatever was done today messed things up. I normally get well over 900 Mbps speed to the gateway. And I normally get over 900 Mbps speed to the desktop, which is connected via ethernet sitting right next to the gateway.
I'm now getting around 35 Mbps to the gateway and desktop. Also getting 35 Mbps via wifi to my laptop. I did the recommended software reset of the gateway. When that didn't work, I performed a power down/up of the gateway. Same result...35 Mbps.
Gotta fix this fast.
I have reported this via private message to Comcast. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue after Comcast messed with their gateway today.

Ugh. Those are poor speeds.
I'm not seeing a problem at my home. I don't need really high speed (I almost always am just doing regular internet browsing with no streaming) and my service package is 300 down / 10 up. I just ran two tests and got 350 / 10 so I have nothing to complain about. I've not encountered any new problems since the gateway was reset earlier today; of course the problem we've been discussing in this thread continues.
Although Amira's email wasn't very specific, it was not my impression that they were attempting to change anything when they accessed our gateways earlier today. My impression was that they were going to ping the gateway to gather info and then re-start the gateway. But perhaps I'm mistaken and they were intending to change things in some way.
I just checked and I see that my gateway firmware is unchanged. I'm not aware of any settings that were changed on the gateway but I'm not familiar with every single item.
Whatever their intentions may or may not have been, it's clear that something changed for the worst for you. I hope you're successful in getting that fixed quickly.

Yeah, I didn't think Amira was changing anything either. And maybe she didn't. I'm not sure when this slow speed started happening. I actually checked it yesterday morning and it was over 900 Mbps. I didn't check it again until last night. Wished I had checked it after Amira. I'm thinking the timing of the slow speed is probably just coincidental.
I just sent a PM to Rob. Hope he's still working.

More than likely the cause is the router's DHCP server is releasing the IP lease on WIndows 10 computer when it goes into Sleep, Hibernate, or Powered off. It doesn't seem to effect Windows 7 computers and I haven't tested it on Windows 8 and 8.1.

I agree, that seems to be what is happening. But my question is, why is that happening?
a) Is this an intentional change by Comcast? If so, why did they make this change?
b) Is this an unintended side-effect of some other change made by Comcast?
I'm guessing that the answer is (b) but of course I don't know. I'm hoping that we find out soon and that Comcast is able to quickly get this back to the way it used to be.
For the past few days I've been measuring my ethernet connection times. Every one has taken between 33 and 37 seconds. Of course that's not devastating but it sure is annoying. And it doesn't have to be that way.

As an update: Appears (and hoping) my horrible download speed issue is related to a service problem in our area, and not something that was done yesterday. Comcast has posted three service interruption notices for my area since this morning. First one around 8:00am. Next one around noon. Now another one around 2:30pm. Each notification goes up for about 1.5 hours, then disappears, before another one goes up.
So it appears that nothing was done to my modem yesterday, other than investigation and reset. Hopefully I'll be back up full speed some time today.
Just wanted to clear the air, since I thought something may have been done to my modem yesterday to cause this problem!

We are new Comcast customers, having just moved to a home and had the coax run to the house for the first time. Comcast hooked us up with an XB7 modem/router combo unit. We've had it for like two weeks now and the delay in devices receiving their IP has finally annoyed me enough to seek support.
We have two Win10 computers connected via ethernet. When they wake from Sleep or are Rebooted it can take up to two minutes for the router to allow them to connect to the internet. I thought this was an issue with DHCP table timing (maybe the router isn't ready for the initial request and doesn't send until a timeout/second try?) so I changed them to Static. The issue **still** occurs, which floored me a little bit. Why is the gateway taking so long to serve that connection!? Both members of our household have worked in home networking support (It's been over a decade now, but I'd still rather light myself on fire than call into Comcast telephony support,) and this one is kind of stumping us.
I'll be following this thread and would appreciate other users touching base occasionally to update on their support tickets and any potential resolutions. Thanks!
