How do I connect a 2.4 GHz only device?

To connect a device to your Xfinity 2.4 GHz WiFi network, you typically need to split the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks and then select the 2.4 GHz network. You can do this using the Xfinity app or by accessing your router's settings via a web browser.

 

The 2.4 GHz band offers better WiFi coverage, but is prone to more congestion due to heavy network traffic.
The 5 GHz band offers less range than the 2.4 GHz band, but delivers faster speeds due to less congestion and wider channels.

If you have an xFi Gateway, we suggest you simplify your WiFi and use a single SSID. That is, use the same WiFi name and password for your 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6GHz (if applicable) bands, so you can take advantage of a automatic and seamless connection to the best network.

hanks for sharing, user_e6jtp1! I have a lot of smart devices that need to stay on the 2.4 network only. The band steering will stay set up but the steps below will connect the devices to the 2.4 network only. 

  1. From a computer or device connected to the Gateway, open an internet browser and access the Admin Tool at http://10.0.0.1.
  2. Once logged in, select Connection and then Wi-Fi.
  3. Select EDIT at the end of the row for the 5 GHz Frequency Band.
  4. Select Disable, then select SAVE SETTINGS.
  5. Complete set up of the device using the device’s app.
  6. Go back into the Admin Tool and re-enable the 5 GHz band.

Neither my wife or I were able to sign into the gateway via 10.0.0.1 with any username or password.
