Changing WiFi channels on the xb8 gateway

Some of my devices cannot connect to my wireless network.  The error says the WiFi channel is full. (I don't know if it means the 2.4, 5.0 or 6.0 band).  The xfinity assistant is useless.  I have rebooted the xb8 multiple times, but that does not solve my problem.  I login to the xb8 and go to the place where you change WiFi channels, but it is disabled.

How do I get to chat with a live agent to help getting this problem resolved?

The XB8 has band steering and as I understand it can not be made to be a conventional 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi router.  It chooses which band to put each device on.  If you have older devices or many Home Automation devices I suspect you are running out of 2.4 Allocation.  This issue, along with very poor WiFi coverage in general is why I use my XB8 in bridge mode and have an ASUS router which I can control.

Curious if you have encountered any issues using it this way. TIA

I have had no issues.  I would prefer to just have a simple modem, but the Xfinity plan structures that offer unlimited data made it more attractive financially to just use an XB8 and put it in bridge mode.  If it had the same level of WiFi coverage that my old ASUS router has I might consider using it but then you still have to deal with the issue of band steering.

I am having the same problems. My own router worked great with everything. I got the xb8 and now my printer won't work.

Hi @dalisa769 , thank you for taking the time to visit our community forums. I understand that there are many conveniences to having a printer that become null & void without internet access, and believe me our goal is to reduce inconvenience in your life. A lot of devices like printers and cameras prefer to use the 2.4 GHZ band, and you should be able to create a seperation of bands within the Xfinity app. The article below will show you how to make these Wi-Fi setting changes in the Xfinity app.
How to change your home network's WiFi channel selection or mode

Please let me know if this helped in any way. 😀
