Cat 6

I'm a total newbie and don't know what cat 6 really is, besides Internet.

Currently at have a router downstairs and everything like Netflix on TVs are connected by WiFi.

We have a newer house we are moving into, it has cat 6 wired throughout the entire house with everything connected in a closet.  Would we just connect to these now instead of using WiFi.

What's the advantage?

How do you know if you have Cat6 grade Ethernet cable?  Did you remove a wall outlet plate and see label on cable?

If you are getting good signals through wi-fi all is fine. If not, Ethernet will do better (no RF interference likely found on wi-fi).

@MNtundraRET because it was posted as a selling point.  And the realtor showed us them in each room.

Hi there @user_e845a5 I do want to thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to reach out through our Forums Channel. That sounds like an awesome selling point, I wish my home had the ethernet connection throughout option! I see flatlander3 provided information, did you have any further questions?

Ethernet is awesome.  Super fast, low latency.  And if you want an access point?  Well plug a cheap one right in for WiFi where you need it.  The other end of that cable goes into your gateway.

If the previous owner did you a solid, he labeled/numbered the cables and jacks, and perhaps even left you the switch it was hooked up to.  If you are really lucky, there's a network diagram on the wall in the basement somewhere too.
