Can't access gateway login page at 10.0.0.1

Browsing to http://10.0.0.1 used to take me to the gateway (router) login page.  Now it just displays a page saying "To manage your gateway settings and other features, please download the Xfinity xFi app."  I don't know why this changed, but it was within the past 10 days.

I can't use the app, because I don't have a smartphone.  I want to be able to manage the gateway settings through a web browser.  I can get to the most important settings (such as WiFi name and password) through xfinity.com, but I would like to be able to access all the settings.

Yes I can’t block certain websites from my children, if I can’t control what’s accessible  through my Internet, then I will find another provider

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. I can certainly understand the inconvenience caused by not being able to use the Admin tool as before. You’ve come to the right team of Xfinity experts to assist with this over social media. After researching this further, I have confirmed that once WiFi Intelligence is enabled on an Xfinity Gateway, you can no longer manage the Wi-Fi Network Name/Password in the Admin Tool. Canges must be made through the app. Here is a link to more details here. "WiFi Intelligence" is a feature of Xfinity Gateways that automatically optimizes your home network by managing settings like channel selection and band usage to provide the best performance. Please let me know if this helps.

@XfinityGabriel We're not trying to manage the Wi-Fi Network Name/Password in the Admin Tool and we didn't change anything.  Xfinity silently made the change for us in the past week.

I had a friend install the Xfinity App on their newer phone and used it to re-enable the admin interface.  View Wifi Equipment -> Advanced settings -> Admin Tool online access

@XfinityGabriel Is there any way to turn off WiFi Intelligence and re-enable the Admin Tool, without using the app?

@user_0s1jik Thanks for the tip.  If I find a way to run the app, I will try that.

Once WiFi Intelligence is enabled, there is no way for that to be turned off @user_brgi24. There are still things that can be done in the admin tool, but some features can only be done in the app.

That is correct user_0s1jik! The Admin Tool can be enabled through the Xfinity app 👍

Ouch! Comcast has done away with 10.0.0.1 access. They're forcing us to use the app now. That means when our Internet goes out and the app can't connect to the modem, the only way to regain functionality is to physically unplug/replug the modem. Yes, this bites the big one!
Found a workaround...

  1. Open the Xfinity App. (You'll need a working connection for this step).

  2. Go to the WiFi tab.

  3. Select View WiFi equipment and open Advanced Settings.

  4. Select Admin Tool online access.

  5. Slide the toggle button to Allow Admin Tool access (ON).

  6. Select Save.

After that, you should be able to navigate to [http://10.0.0.1](http://10.0.0.1)

I was about to celebrate when I read your reply (admittedly, after replying to the thread overall), but there's no option "Select Admin Tool Access" on the App for me, just the normal DNS, DMZ, PF stuff etc. RIP making reservations for my stuff...TY Comcast, much appreciated.

@eg7789 Thanks, that worked for me. Had to install the app on a phone that the app had no business being on, so that was nice.

My XB7 is setup in Bridged mode with the internal Wi-Fi turned off because I have my own internal network. I can't login to the 10.0.0.1 webpage nor can I use the app to allow access. How can I restore the admin web interface?

@eg7789 The only options in my Xfinity app for WiFi is Troubleshooting, WiFi Hotspots, and Ask Xfinity Assistant. There's no selection for equipment, that's my issue.

@XfinityAngie Yes, I'm still having issues enabling Admin Tool Access in the Xfinity app. I don't use the built-in wi-fi or any internal routing. My XB7 modem is in full bridged mode. I checked and I have the latest version of the app from the app store.

Trying to get support at Comcast is a joke. I have the same issue. I do not want to have to use some App; what, exactly, was wrong with the web UI?

I have no "Allow Admin Access Online" option. I think it's an XB6, for what that's worth.

Thank you for letting us know this feature is not visible in the app @Quinn12! Other users have reported resetting the wireless gateway has fixed this issue in the app. If you hold the WPS button for more than 30 seconds, it will factory reset the device. Once reset, please log out of the app, check if the app is fully up to date on your mobile device’s app store, and then sign back in.

@XfinityAldrik Ok. I'm loathe to do that because I have a lot of DHCP reservations set up for the hardware I RDP into.

@XfinityAldrik I just opened the App and it says the App is no longer compatible with my phone. I avoid Consumerism where I can, so haven't got a new phone in about 8 years. The App doesn't even appear in the Google Play Store any more (when searching on my phone). When I search for it on my PC, it asks me where I want to install the App. I see my phone there, but it's greyed out and says "This item is not compatible with your device"

Is the solution to my issue to get a new phone? Because that's not a solution.

Edit: I installed the app on another phone and worked around those new restrictions. It's working now.

Just tried to log in 10 xxxxx.  I DO NOT use any apps period. With the amount fake apps that are out there and the New AI technology, it is a dangerous place for everyone. The amount of security breaches that have occurred and peoples data stolen. Will have to find a new provider possible. People have to understand trackers on their phones and what exactly is being leaked all day, every day. The internet is loaded with malicious fake apps and you know it as well. And now you have AI.  LOOKOUT..... Yes my data was breached also and not one word was said.

Now i have to fight this issue tooth and nail. And at a financial cost.

Yeah.

I only use WiFi when I do updates, which I haven't done in quite a while. So, WIFI IS OFF ON MY ROUTER.

So if it's off on my router, how am I supposed to use the app to change my settings?

It seems that I might have to call in and have someone turn the browser access back on.

Please respond.

If the WiFi is off on your router. Use the phone company's cell phone data on your cell phone if you have it.

Thanks to everyone for the information.

I borrowed a smartphone and installed the Xfinity app on it temporarily.  With the app, I was able to re-enable the browser-based admin console according to the instructions given by user_0s1jik & eg7789:
Wi-Fi tab - View Wi-Fi equipment - Advanced Settings - Admin Tool online access

Then I was able to sign in to the gateway admin console at http://10.0.0.1.  (Note, I found that my router admin password had been reset to the default printed on the sticker on the bottom of the router.)

In my opinion, the browser-based admin console is a basic function that should always be available.  Comcast should neither unilaterally disable it, nor make it impossible to re-enable without using the app.
