Can't Access Admin Tools via 10.0.0.1

I would like to know how to access the admin tools of my current modem. The app is of little to no help as the only Xfinity equipment that I use is the modem itself in bridge mode. All other equipment in my house is my own. So the steps to gain admin access on the modem found at https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access does not work, because again I do not have any other Xfinity equipment to manage. This is completely unacceptable, and potentially a serious security risk.

Hello @BenjaminF and thank you for reaching out on our Xfinity Community forums to express your concerns!

The link you posted (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access) does provide correct information for most users (though it does not take into account users who might be running their Xfinity modem in Bridge Mode!)

In the document it states: Visit http://10.0.0.1 while connected to your WiFi at home.

  • Username: admin
  • Password: Use the new password created when you enabled access. Users who enabled access prior to February 2026 may still use the default password found on the sticker on the bottom of your Xfinity WiFi Gateway.

This is correct -but- if you are in bridge mode and you are using your own router behind the modem, this disables the WiFi that is ON the modem itself.  You would also not be on the same 'subnet' as the modem from behind a secondary router.

In this instance what you will need to do is connect a laptop or desktop computer via ETHERNET directly TO the modem.

You will need to manually assign a 10.0.0.x IP address to the ethernet on your device and then through a web browser, you would then be able to enter 10.0.0.1.

That will allow you to connect to the modem directly as long as you have turned on the ADMIN function through the app.

If you need further assistance, please let us know!  We're here to help!

What the "admin-tool-access" should say, but doesn't, is that the procedure doesn't work with Comcast/Xfinity gateways in bridge mode. You have to:

  • factory reset the gateway to clear bridge mode
  • use the app to enable admin tool access
  • re-enable bridge mode

That's our Comcast/Xfinity!
