Cable Modem Upgrade
So I get an email about my internet speed being updated and saying my current cable modem is obsolete so they say. That I’m not getting the most out of the service, blah blah blah and consider upgrading it. Honestly, I don’t know the difference because I barely experience any crashes or slowness and think it’s a money grab. But kind of concerned that after I hook up this new game system to what have might not keep up and then might start having interruptions. I have my own cable modem because I refuse to go back to paying a ridiculous rental fee. I reviewed the list of the newer modems they sent in the email, went to research to price them and it seems like every time I put in a search with each model and brand, the search brings up something else. Btw, the first brand on the list is misspelled (eye roll). So do any of these new cable modems really exists? If I go through with it and do find something new, I’m dreading the thought of having to set it up. All I can do is think about the h#$$ I went through setting it up the first time, the hours on end on the phone and chat then having to shell out extra money for a tech to come out. Does the Netgear CM3000 & CBR750 and Arris SURFboard G54 models exists ?

The Arris G54 exists. $600. I just acquired one. (BHPhotovideo.) But I can't get 200Mbps up with it. (Long story. Comcast personnel claim that the service is available in my area. A tech who showed up today said, not yet.)
As far as I know, the CM3000 isn't available at retail yet.
The CBR750 exists, for $477 (Amazon).
I wonder why Comcast hasn't supported other DOCSIS 3.1 modems that are spec'd above the maximum data rates. If I was cynical, I'd say that it is to drive rentals of their gateways.

I went round with Comcast support. They referred me to Arris, who confirmed that the G54 settings are determined by Comcast.
I gave up, and went with an Xfinity rental gateway (XB8). It gives me 200Mbps+ upload speeds. The tech misinformed me. However, the Arris G54 also seems to not be supported for the next gen speed tier. (At least for me.)
My take? If you wish to get the next gen speed tier with an owned modem, you may have to be lucky.

What we all really want to know is "when will my existing docsis 3.1 modem that is on your existing approved list (not the one you just sent out with only 5 modems) be added to the new approved list, and if not why?". As far as I can tell, the docsis 3.1 standard supports 1Gb upload speeds already.

I am beginning to have second thoughts about this modem upgrade business the more I think about it and the more they keep sending me that that annoying email about another modem. I keep hearing people being told different answers. One minute you are being told the speeds are upgraded then find out they really aren't. Very conflicting information and I guess it varies but that's enough for me to have second thoughts. I already lack trust in this company as it is. I have been trying to get in contact with an actual person from Xfinity other than a stupid bot to confirm if I really have upgraded speeds. Doing everything in my power NOT to get their equipment.

All I can say is that I got the speed with Comcast's XB8 gateway, but not with an Arris G54 modem.
The G54 made no economic sense, but I was reluctant to lease a modem from Comcast.

Received this same message and coindentally have been having VOIP issues last few weeks. Running the Netgear CM1100 and having 12 Mbps upload (not expected) and over 400 Mpbs download (as expected). I can't imagine switching to the Netgear CM 3000 would solve my upload speeds especially since it doesnt support docsis 3.1.

Just wanted to add my frustration, as well. I also received the email that I can now get faster upload speeds "IF" I upgrade my modem or lease from Comcast. The part that frustrates and baffles me is that my modem (ARRIS / Surfboard SB8200) has the exact same DOCSIS 3.1 CableLabs certification, the same channels (which are 2 OFDM and 32 SC-QAM bonded downstream with 2 OFDMA and 8 SC-QAM bonded upstream) and shows faster speeds than the Hitron Coda and Netgear CBR750, yet somehow it's not good enough. ?????
I got the modem to future-proof myself and found my first issue when Comcast wouldn't bond the two 1G ports for faster download. Ok, I can kind of understand that but why limit the upload? If it can do 957Mbps down with 2/32 channels, then at minimum it can do 239Mbps up with 2/8 channels. Likely it can do a LOT more upload considering it is faster than the CODA and CBR750 at downloads and they are rated at 456Mbps & 471Mbps for uploads with the same channel setup.
