Blink sync module

My Blink cameras and doorbell were working fine before we switched back to Xfinity internet. I got the cameras connected but not the doorbell. Thought maybe it was dead and ordered the newest doorbell camera which came with a sync module. I have stayed on the phone with Blink for way too long and it's still not connecting. I have looked at some of the posts here and verified the Bridge mode was turned off, turned off both the 5 and 6 GHz. Still won't connect. It finds the sync module but then says it cannot connect to the Blink servers and says the most common problem is the password. I have double checked and even re-entered the password. We just got a new tv and the night before I called Blink last week, I entered that password at least a dozen times setting everything up on that new tv so I KNOW that is not the issue. I have probably tried to connect over 50 times. I have unplugged and reset both the gateway and the sync module multiple times. I don't know what else to try at this point and am very frustrated with both Blink and Xfinity. They had me try to use my tablet instead of my phone and I still got the same message. This appears to be a known issue so surely the answer is also known.

Greetings @user_de3f62, and thanks for posting your question to the Xfinity forums, I hope this message finds you well. I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with the Blink camera, but you have come to the right place for assistance with this. Thank you for the troubleshooting you have done on your end, that is very helpful. You mentioned that you have tried disabling the 5 and 6 GHz WiFi bands, have you tried turning the option on to have the networks separate, and then renaming the 2.4 GHz network, and see if that works?

@XfinityJeff No, I haven't tried that and don't know how to do that. Can you please walk me through it? If I do that, will we still have all three networks?

I also have been trying to troubleshoot with Blink and I turned off the Xfinity Gateway and used just my phone internet and turned my hotspot on then used my tablet and was able to connect to the Blink servers and it updated the firmware on both the sync module and camera and it all worked. But of course, that is not a solution as I can't have my phone sitting around on hotspot all the time and not be able to take it when I leave the house. So I still don't have a solution from them.

@user_de3f62 - It is incredibly frustrating when you know you’re doing everything right, especially when you’ve verified that password a dozen times on other devices, and the hardware still refuses to cooperate. The fact that your Blink system worked perfectly on a mobile hotspot confirms two things: your Blink hardware is functional, and your internet speed is fine. The issue is a "handshake" problem between the Xfinity Gateway and the Sync Module. Blink devices (and many smart home gadgets) use older 2.4 GHz chips that get "confused" when they see a single WiFi name that covers 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz simultaneously. Separating them is the most reliable fix.

Will you still have all three networks?
Yes. Instead of one network name (SSID) for everything, you will see two or three distinct names when you go to connect a device. For example:

- MyNetwork_2.4

- MyNetwork_5

How to Separate Your WiFi Bands
Since you are likely using the newer Xfinity XB7 or XB8 Gateway (which supports 6 GHz), you usually cannot do this through the Xfinity App because it tries to force "Smart Managed WiFi." You’ll need to use the Admin Tool in a web browser.

1. Log in to the Gateway:

- Open a browser on your phone or tablet while connected to your home WiFi.

- Type 10.0.0.1 into the address bar and hit Enter.

- Username: admin

- Password: password (Unless you have changed this previously).

2. Navigate to WiFi Settings:

- Go to Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi.

- You will see your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (and 6 GHz if applicable) networks listed.

3. Edit the Names:

- Click Edit next to the 2.4 GHz band.

- Change the Network Name (SSID) to something slightly different (e.g., add _2.4 to the end).

- Keep the password the same to make it easy on yourself.

- Do the same for the 5 GHz band (e.g., add _5).

4. Save Settings:

- Click Save Settings. Your devices will briefly disconnect as the router reboots its WiFi radios.

The "Blink Connection" Game Plan
Once the networks are renamed:

1. Connect your phone specifically to the new 2.4 GHz network name you just created.

2. Reset the Sync Module: Hold the reset button on the side until it flashes red, then wait for it to return to a blinking blue/steady green pattern.

3. Run the Setup: In the Blink app, when it asks for your WiFi, select the 2.4 GHz name.

One More Xfinity "Gotcha": Security Settings
If renaming the bands doesn't immediately work, check the Security Mode while you are still in that 10.0.0.1 menu.

- Blink modules sometimes struggle with WPA3.

- Ensure the 2.4 GHz security is set to WPA2-PSK (AES). This is the "universal language" for smart home tech.

And please let me know if this helps!
