6GHZ Added to my Wireless Gateway?

So my wireless gateway is TG4482A its a newer tall white box.  Lately I was looking at my WIFI settings through XFI option and I noticed that my Router is now a triple band meaning it has an additional 6ghz band besides the two that were already there before meaning 2.4ghz and 5ghz. So where did this new 6ghz band come from if this router is suppose to be dual band? Do any devices even support it? I still have one WIFI name and one password so everything is still combined should I keep it this way? IF anyone can shine some light on this will be great

Thanks

An overnight firmware push by them enabled it.

6GHz is part of WiFi 6E. It's very new and a few devices support it.

I don't think my wireless gateway is 6E Mine is dual band so why am I seeing it on mine and what should I do?

The hardware of that gateway device was built to be WiFi 6 capable all along. It just needed a firmware update to enable the function. They disabled it a while back in order to get the bugs fixed I assume. And possibly for other reasons unknown to me.

OK so this means its a triple band gateway? Should I keep same WIFI name and password for all three? Right now its all combined and the router is broadcasting only one name, its good right?

It's up to you. Some people like to give slightly different names so they can force some devices to a particular band, or at least know which band is in use without digging into network settings. I just add "2" or "5" to my SSID's.

Strange thing is that when I log into admin tool (10.0,0,1) I do not see 6ghz there, I only see it when I log into XFI. Why do you think that is? I'm not very technical as you know so should I do anything on my end with this new 6ghz thing or just keep everything as it is?

You are reading too much into this. Just make believe that it's not there.

Now I logged into XFI and I don't even see 6ghz listed there anymore. May be some of the Comcast technicians read my post here and disabled it on my equipment?

I doubt that. They don't typically single out an individual device just by them reading someone's posts here.

Features like that (not an individual's settings) are typically subject to global firmware pushes / changes that were written by their engineering department that affect all users who use a particular device.

Again, you are reading too much into this. Don't sweat it and get on with the more important aspects of your life ! Good luck and take care !

@Tatyana1 yesterday I had to turn off 5ghz to get a smart devices to connect. I saw the 6ghz option too and was confused. I was in a hurry so I ignored it, but when I can back to turn 5ghz back on I didn't see the 6 ghz. They must have pushed and update and then pulled it back or something. I was curious about it and found this thread. Something disconnected half of my smart lights though so maybe the update messed with things.

@KevinWillbur I was so confused when I first seen it. I tried to turn it on but couldn’t select the WPA Security. Then last night seen that it was gone. No big deal really, because I don’t how many things are capable of Wi-Fi 6E. It is good to know the Gateway is that futured proof.
