So I Can't Use Xfinity Speed Test to Test My Laptop Anymore?

Been here almost 20 years.  Now I can't use Xfinity Speed Test to test my laptop download/upload speeds anymore?  Why???

NOTE: I do not have, nor have ever had, nor will ever have, a smart phone.

Greetings, OldeFatGuy! We understand the importance of keeping track of your Internet speed test results. Not to worry! You have reached the right team to look into this issue for you. Are you receiving an error message when you try running the speed test on your PC?

Ahm, no, no error message.  When I go to the site I've used and had bookmarked for years I get now a screen saying to download the app.  Again, I don't have a smart phone, period.  I can't download and/or install any apps from the Google or Apple store.  This is a windows PC, same one I've used for years.  Same browser I've used for years.  Same bookmarked Xfinity speedtest website I've used for years (here is link: https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/speed-test)

Only now when I click that bookmark I get this screen with no way to start a speed test. (attached pic) Well, never mind, I guess we can't attach screenshots anymore.  And things are always supposed to get better....

EDIT: The site that is actually bookmarked and I have used for years is: https://speedtest.xfinity.com  But when I click on it now, it redirects to the link I posted above.

OldeFatGuy, After researching further into this issue for you, I was able to confirm we have updated our speed testing to be implemented through the app for better speed test results. You can review more information here at https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/speed-test.

@XfinityNatalie Using the app sends you to a web page that tells you to use the app.

@XfinityNatalie So the answer to my question is, no, I cannot use Xfinity Speed Test to test my laptop anymore.  Thank you for confirming what I suspected when I posted.

That is correct @OldeFatGuy, but there are other third party speed tests that are available through the web browser that you can use.

Same problem.

When trying to test it from the Xfinity app on my phone that results in getting sent to the website that tells me to use the app, which then sends me to a blank webpage.

Comcast speed test stopped working properly around here a while ago.  I have to "shop around" for some other speed test provider to see if my line is working properly.  Seems like now they've eliminated it entirely, so I guess I'll just keep shopping around and demand Comcast accept whatever results I come up with now that they don't have a test system.

This whole speed test app thing is a bad idea.  WiFi is a random problem injector.  Look around these boards a bit.  A lot of times when someone has a speed issue the first thing someone will ask is if they've tried with a wired connection to the router.  WiFi is prone to all sorts of outside interference that a wired connection is immune to.  It's just going to give them headaches.

My WiFi can't even get close to my plan speed, so testing with the "app" is pointless.  My plan speed is 2100/300, which is useful on my computers over a cabled network.  My WiFi gear tops out around 600, which is more than I need for phones, occasional unplugged laptop use, and a couple streaming gizmos and whatnot.

Funny thing is I've gotten the fastest download rates off of Steam.  Yep, downloading a video game.  Sometimes Steam beats speed tests on download.  Makes sense if you think about it.  When a big new game comes out Steam needs massive bandwidth on release day.  Million+ people who didn't pre-order clicking buy and download as soon as they get home from work or whatever on a 100GB game.  Steam can be slow at times, like when a big game comes out, but if you catch them at a slow time they just saturate your internet connection.  I have a 2100/300 plan.  I've seen Steam downloads hit 2.4+Gbps.  Comcast does tend to overprovision a bit, I think by about 20%.  Back when I had slower service and Comcast Speed Test still worked I could get that consistently.  ~720 on a 600 down plan, for example.

Does anyone know if the app speed test works for customers who have a Comcast/Xfinity gateway? I am using a retail modem and router and have run into the same roadblocks as described above.
