3rd party modem

I've tried 2 different modems with no luck getting them to connect. 1st was a Motorola MT7711, now I have an Arris SVG2482AC which also I cannot connect. Both times I've contacted customer support and was told that my NEW modems where defective. But, when plug the rented modem back in it works fine. But, when I pluge my rented modem back in, it works fine.

That is interesting. I have the Arris svg2482ac for sometime and it is working. I am using separate router as well.  I know you said new modems, what does Arris modem do when you try to set it up?
