2.4 GHz Connection and 802.11 b settings

Is there a way to add the b mode to the 2.4 GHz connection? Do I need to disable the 2.4 GHz to be able to change this setting? Right now it is set to 802.11 g/n.

I am sorry this has been a bit of a hassle, @user_759f7b. The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there. We work as a team so sending it to our main handle will route it through to our team.

You'd have a better chance of a forum user answering a question if you provided the model number of the equipment you have.  I can change the radio mode on a DD-WRT router at will.  You can do it on most 3rd party gear too, and there are advanced radio functions you can optimize as well.

I am having the same issue. I am trying to connect a robot vacuum to my network. It only connects via 2.4ghz. I have tried disabling the 5ghz and the last thing is to us the mod of 802.11gb...in the gateway setting i cant change the mode and it says Mode: 2.4 GHz operates in g,n,ax modes. I have the Router/Combo with xfinity (tg4482a). The Chat agent wanted to send someone to my house to fix his and while i am not an IT professional, but i know enough to know the workers dont do this stuff. They also mentioned an interference with a mesh network, but i told them I only have xfinity equipment sooooo that would be something you all would correct? I cant attach things, but this is the conversation (I since revert the split so it i all one.

From Agent,

Hello, thank you for contacting Xfinity chat Support. My name is Khalid , May I have your first and last name ?

From Agent,

Glad to have you on chat Eric!!

From Agent,

I see that your experiencing an issue with internet. Could you please describe the issue for me so I can quickly look at it?

From You,

I am trying to connect a device that only works on 2.4ghz...i have managed to separate the network so it is broadcasting in 2.5 and 5 (well that i can choose from at least). I also deactivated the 5g just so there was no chance it was try and find

From You,

The device i am trying to connect to recommends seeing the mode to 80.11gb...however i cant per the gateway...can you change that

From You,

It says it only Mode: 2.4 GHz operates in g,n,ax modes. But can b be an option?

From Agent,

I appreciate you reported to us. Let me look into this immediately.

From Agent,

I see that you've been a loyal Comcast customer, we truly appreciate your business with us!!!

From Agent,

I am working on the setting changes

From Agent,

I will surely help you with this

From Agent,

Please stay connected

From You,

ok

From Agent,

I am working on it

From You,

ty

From Agent,

I see that your have connected to Mesh WIfi and you have to disconnect it to make the gateway work on both frequency

From You,

Mesh Wifi...not familiar with what the means?

From Agent,

has a Mesh Network (as your xFi Gateways is WiFi Intelligence)

From Agent,

Mesh WiFi or Whole Home WiFi systems consist of a main router that connects directly to your modem, and a series of satellite modules, or nodes, placed around your house for full WiFi coverage

From You,

Sorry, i am usually pretty good with this stuff, but i am not following. Is there something in the app i can do?

From You,

I have the modem combo from you all

From Agent,

Let me check further in this

From You,

Yea, i dont have any other equipment. I just have the modem/router thing from you all

From Agent,

I am working on it

From Agent,

Just to confirm you have two wifi network name 2.4 and 5.0 and you are able to connect with 2.4 is that correct?

From You,

I do now. Prior to today i never had them split. But because it only wants to connect to the 24 (it is a robot vacuum) i split it via the app so it gave me the 2.4 and 5ghz broadcast. I then went into the Gateway and deactivated so it was not broadcasting. The last thing they recommend is making the mode 802.11gb. I cant choose b via the gateway settings. On all other deceives (phone ect) i can connect the 2.4

From Agent,

It needs to get fixed manually and for that I need to schedule a technician for do the setting changes

From Agent,

Is that ok for you

From You,

Are going to come to me or do it remotely? Am i going to be charged?

From Agent,

Yes they will visit at your place

From Agent,

Technician charges are dependable . If issue is cause from our end then there will be a no charge . If issue is detected over inside houseline and connection then only it will be chargeable .

From You,

i am lost there

From You,

why/how would them coming to my house fix this

From You,

If this is about adding the mode.....unless they have a degree in IT i dont see how,.....

From Agent,

I have try to change the mode 802.11gb. but its showing interference of Mesh wifi

From You,

Which i dont have i have your stuff

From You,

I cant deal with this fully right now. So, I am going to table this. TY

From Agent,

To make it work we have to swap your modem with Xb6 then only it will work

From You,

Ok I will check back on this ty

I'm sorry to hear that this has been a process for you. Have you tried splitting the networks instead of disabling one? You can do so by giving them separate names, and then attempting to connect your device to the 2.4 network.

I no longer work for Comcast.
