10-second latency spikes to Riot Games (Valorant) - routing issue at Independence, MO node

Hello Xfinity Support,

I have an open ticket regarding latency spikes I'm experiencing while playing VALORANT. The spikes last under one second, reach 90-250ms, and occur exactly every 10 seconds.

I've done extensive troubleshooting:

  • Ran PingPlotter traces to Riot's servers

  • Confirmed my home network is clean (no Wi-Fi issues, dedicated configuration)

  • Contacted Riot Games Support, who confirmed this is a routing issue on Comcast's end

My PingPlotter traces show the problem originates at:
be-7-ar01.independence.mo.indepen.comcast.net
and continues through:
be-2403-pe03.350ecermak.il.ibone.comcast.net

The 10-second pattern suggests either a congested peering link to Riot's infrastructure or a route flapping issue at the Independence node.

I need to speak with someone in Network Engineering or Backend Support who can either:

  1. Re-route my traffic away from the problematic node, or

  2. Assign me a static IP address to stabilize my route

I can provide PingPlotter data, screenshots, and my correspondence from Riot Games Support upon request.

Thank you for your help.

This guy's way too advanced for me but I believe I am experiencing the same issue.
Started happening yesterday and is persisting today. I am getting consistent ping spikes where my ping will jump from a stable 26 ping to like 200 ping every ten seconds.

Not sure how to get this problem fixed at all...

@XfinityJanelle Yes the problem stopped for a few days but is now back. This has been consistent as it will go on and off for days in cycles.

Oh no, user_f4qb57! I appreciate you taking the time to share what you’re experiencing—let’s see if we can narrow this down together. When this issue occurs, are you connected over WiFi or using a direct Ethernet connection? Also, have you had a chance to close out any background apps or traffic on your device during that time to see if it makes a difference?

Yes I've ran under a clean boot and still had the issue. I'm running on wireless but the problem is on and off and never with any other games so I don't believe it's an issue with my method of connection. I don't think this is something I can troubleshoot on my end I've already been through countless troubleshooting with Riot Games. I'm not currently facing the problem but I have been trying to get support to refer the problem to your network engineers. I listed some additional information in my comcast subreddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/s/snC0n0iXJh  . I talked to some xfinity support via reddit but we're not able to get past the verification process so I'm not too committed to that.

I see we directed you to Modmail @user_f4qb57, and you mentioned verification issues, sorry to hear about the trouble!

Have you considered setting up port forwarding? It can help resolve intermittent connection and matchmaking issues with specific games like Valorant or League of Legends by creating a direct, open path for data between your PC and the Riot Games servers. By giving Riot’s network traffic an open door, it bypasses strict firewall checks, is that something you’ve already tried?

This sounds like a Resolution issue with the hub itself...
With all the updates Xfinity is currently doing to their hardware, traffic is being routed in different directions so this kind of issue is to sadly be expected.
The same thing happens to my room mate often when he plays various online games before the maintenance took place.  Since that maintenance...well, its been 12 days now since I have had internet...so I can't give you any further updates or have him do a Trace Route or Ping a server for yall to further verify.
