user_ppyh1y Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forums. I can understand why you're frustrated. If everything was working this morning and nothing has changed on your account, it would be upsetting to suddenly start seeing a location message for your local channels. We're happy to help take a closer look. When you have a moment, please send us a Direct Message with your name and service address, and we'll review the account for you. If possible, please include a screenshot of the message you're seeing and let us know what device you're using to watch TV.

We'll do our best to figure out what's causing this and get you pointed in the right direction.

Here is what I am getting when I try to access local stations

To Play Video we’ll need to know where you are Please turn on your location service and adjust high accuracy or battery saver.

Again very frustrating since no change within my account… I am to the point of canceling this service and finding another that doesn’t keep screwing up service

@user_ppyh1y I'm really sorry for the inconvenience and the frustration this has caused. That message does not seem like an X1 error. It is more related to the device you are using. To enable location services for video playback, you need to adjust your device settings. For iPhones, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, and ensure it's enabled for the app you're using. For Android devices, access Settings > Location, and select either "High Accuracy" or "Battery Saver" mode based on your preference. This will allow the app to access your location accurately, which is necessary for the video service to function properly.

I’m having the exact same issue on my fire stick with the Xfinity stream app when I’m using it outside my home.  So frustrating! There’s nowhere to the high accuracy or battery saver options on my fire stick. Help!

Thanks for clarifying! Just to confirm, are you seeing the message about turning on your location services on your TV screen while using the Xfinity Stream app through the Fire Stick?

user_ppyh1y When this started happening was there a recent update to the Firestick, or a recommended one that you declined to complete that you know of?

Thank you for confirming. Since there was no Fire Stick update and you have already reset it several times, we do not want you repeating those steps.

This message usually means the Xfinity Stream app is not recognizing the Fire Stick’s location or your in-home network. On the Fire Stick, please go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Xfinity Stream > Permissions. If a location option appears, make sure it is allowed. Also confirm the Fire Stick is connected to your private home WiFi network—not “xfinitywifi,” a guest network, or a VPN.

If those settings are already correct, do your local stations play through the Xfinity Stream app on another device connected to the same home WiFi? That will tell us whether the issue is limited to the Fire Stick or if the home network is not being recognized correctly.

I’m having the same issues since last week. It’s Either an Xfinity issue or an Amazon fire stick issue. Because my iPad and iPhone work fine

it’s everyone that uses this you should get you IT team to look and test this!!!

kind of ridiculous that you guys have this so much of a problem. If you look back at the threads, you’ll see if this happened multiple times in the past years

I am sorry this is your experience. Have you tried to reboot your modem and after forgetting the network on your smart TV reconnect your devices to the home network? @user_ppyh1y

Xfinity Stream Fire TV – Location Services Error on Local Channels
Hello,
I'm experiencing a new issue with the Xfinity Stream app on my Amazon Fire TV Stick. This setup previously worked without any problems, but local/location-dependent TV Go channels are now displaying a Location Services error asking me to enable location and select “High Accuracy or Battery Saving.”
My device information:
Device: Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (1st Gen)
Fire OS: 6.7.1.1
Xfinity Stream: 8.16.0.4121
Location permission: Enabled for Xfinity Stream
The issue does not affect all channels. For example, ESPN, CNN and CW stream normally, while FOX, PBS and other local/location-dependent programming give me the Location Services error.
The affected programming works normally through Xfinity Stream on my laptop, so the issue appears to be specific to location verification within the Fire TV version of the Xfinity Stream app.
I have already tried the following:
Verified Xfinity Stream has Location permission enabled
Verified the Fire Stick and Xfinity Stream app are fully updated
Force stopped the app
Cleared the cache and app data
Restarted and completely power-cycled the Fire Stick
Uninstalled/reinstalled and reactivated Xfinity Stream
The problem remains.
This began only recently. The same Fire Stick, network and Xfinity account previously streamed these channels without this location error. I've also found reports from other Fire TV users experiencing similar new location-validation problems.
One potentially important detail is that the error asks me to change the location mode to “High Accuracy or Battery Saving.” Those are Android location settings that aren't available as options in Fire OS. Selecting “Update Settings” from the error screen also does not take me to any settings screen.
Since other TV Go channels continue to work and the affected channels work through Xfinity Stream on my laptop, could this please be escalated to the Xfinity Stream/Fire TV technical team to determine whether there is a location-validation issue with the current Fire TV app?
Thank you
