On what platforms can Xfinity Stream pause live TV??

My own experience is that Xfinity Stream for Roku won't pause live TV.

Another thread on this forum suggests that Xfinity Stream for AppleTV version will pause live TV, at least for certain recent versions of the app and OS.

Is there a comprehensive list of which platforms Xfinity Stream will/won't pause live TV?

Pausing is important at my house, and I don't want to pay $15/mo per X1 box to get that feature.

Hello and thank you for bringing your question to our community kaltorak1 🙌 Pausing live TV is easily one of the most used X1 features in my own home, so I can for sure understand the necessity given the convenience it provides hahah. In short, you cannot pause or rewind live TV via Xfinity Stream and would require an X1 box with DVR service to be able to do so. Here's a breakdown of the functionality:

Xfinity X1 TV Boxes (with DVR service):
  • You CAN pause and rewind live TV on X1 TV boxes, except for the RNG150 model.
  • The pause and rewind capability extends up to 60 minutes, as a running buffer, and the time shortens if you watch paused content and don't return to live programming.
Xfinity Stream App and Website:
  • You CANNOT pause and rewind live TV through the Xfinity Stream app or website.
  • This limitation applies to all devices using the Stream app (smart TVs, Roku, Fire Sticks, etc.).
Why the difference?
  • X1 TV boxes have built-in DVR functionality, allowing them to record live TV temporarily and enable pausing and rewinding.
  • The Xfinity Stream app streams content over the internet, and the infrastructure to store and buffer live TV in the cloud for all users is currently not in place.
