Xfinity Stream App Intermittent pausing on Android Tablets.

I have an issue which seems to be unique to Android tablets.

We use an Android tablet to stream CNN, MSNBC, local channels all day, about 8 hours. We don't have a lot of problems with that, except for one. Not always, but at certain times during the day (and not at the same time, necessarily, every day), the TV stream pauses for anywhere from 10 seconds to 60 seconds  and then resumes back into the stream - not from where it paused but from where the stream is currently. This will happen in bursts over a few minutes to 30 minutes and then not again, maybe, for hours.

I have done a lot of testing and have determined that it is most likely the stream being sent to the tablets themselves.

1. The first test is with another Android tablet. Side-by-side. On the same wireless network. Both paused at exactly the same place in the stream. In fact, when one of the streams was lagging the other, the lagging tablet would continue until it reached the exact place where the other tablet just paused and then pause itself.

2. A laptop streaming through the chrome browser. Side-by-side with the tablet. Same wireless network. No pausing at all. At any time. Ever.

3. A cell phone streaming through the Xfinity App on the phone. Side-by-side with the tablet. Same wireless network. No pausing at all. At any time. Ever.

One of the differences that I noticed between the cell phone XFinity Streaming App and the tablet's Xfinity Streaming App was that the cell phone had TVGO under all of the channel names, whereas the XFinity Streaming App on the tablet had the cable channel numbers under the channel names. For example, in our market, CNN is 842. In the Tablet's XFinity Streaming App, 842 was underneath CNN on the list of TV Channels. In the cell phone, it was TVGO.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the app. I have cleared the cache. I have rebuilt the Dalvik cache on the device.

I have tried to stream XFinity through the chrome browser on the tablet, but it won't work. Says I need to use the XFinity Streaming App. If I use desktop mode, to fool the website into thinking it is a desktop rather than a mobile device, it says that I must upgrade the browser version to stream.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I believe this is an XFinity streaming issue and would like to see it resolved.

@techdog0. Thanks for letting us know about your stream issue. What model tablet do you have? Both tablets are the same model?

No. One is an Amazon Fire HD10 (2021 - 11th Generation). The other is a Nexus 7 (2013). So, VERY different hardware but both are Android tablets.

I also understand that there is an issue with Amazon Fire Sticks, which are also Android. So, maybe this is an Android community issue with the streaming app.

Thanks! I don't see any known issues and the best step is to put in a ticket which I have done already. The more tickets we get the more attention the issue gets. You may receive a text in an hour or so asking if the issue is resolved. If you say "no" it may have someone call you, but you can also reach out here and we can continue. Up to 2 tickets may be needed/tried and if there is no progress we can look into another path.

I no longer work for Comcast.

I have received no responses, queries, anything from Xfinity regarding this issue.

Also.... Just to verify... The issue continues to occur, as @user_4f38b3 , reported, also.

So, whatever they think they fixed or issue they resolved, it isn't the one to resolve this issue.

In my testing today (which was only for a short time), the problem continued to occur but the "pauses" "seemed" of shorter duration than previously. So, perhaps some part of the issue was alleviated but has certainly not been solved.

Thanks.

I have the EXACT same problem as described above and I have had it for many months now. In fact, I purchased a new Samsung S7 tablet thinking that it was my older Samsung tablet causing the problem and I have the same problem. I have performed all of the remedial tasks as described above - I have forced stop, cleared the data, cleared the cache, deinstalled and reinstalled the app, rebooted the tablet.  We did a side by side comparison between my wife's new Apple iPad and my new Samsung Android tablet and my Samsung pauses all the time and hers never pauses.  We have placed my Samsung right next to the Xfinity router and I still have the same problem of pausing all the time. These problems are effectively making the Stream application useless and I would like a specific fix recommended to what is a really annoying problem.  Thank you.

@user_4f38b3 Does it freeze at the start of the first commercial after the live program goes to break? After much testing and hair pulling I have narrowed the problem down to the transition from the live program to the first commercial. It seems there is a slight pause before the program starts the location specific commercial stream. It's a hiccup that freezes the video. Pressing the play/pause button starts the commercial  playing again, the rest of the commercial break plays fine and the program plays fine until the next commercial break. It's as though the stream switch to the location specific ad stream locks the player.

My Xfinity Stream app on my Android Mobile Phone during watching a TV program freezes at the beginning of a commercial, unfreezes/freezes during the commercials and after the commercials the TV program starts playing again. I have not tested if this problem happens during recordings.

Xfinity Mobile Service Provider

Motorola moto e6 Mobile Phone with Android 9.0 Operating System

Xfinity Stream App Version 6.17.006

I tried clearing the cookies of the app, clearing the cache of the app, clearing the storage of the app, logging out/in of the app, uninstalling/installing the app.

I talked with Xfinity Mobile Care 1-888-936-4968 Level 1, 2 & 3 and notified them about this problem.

@DonZ1960

I decided to remove the Xfinity Stream app on my Android Mobile Phone as it is unusable for me as it kept on freezing every 15 seconds.
