stream app and high definition

Finally replaced an old tube TV with a smart TV. Downloaded stream app.  Programs are not in high definition. Anyone know why? it is the plan I have? do I have to upgrade my plan as well?

Thanks for your help.  For those with the same issue, here is the fix.

I added the technology package to my account. I waited a few hours. I needed to then delete the stream app and reinstall. I now have access to the HD channels and my screen picture is no longer "boxed in".  On the samsung, I was also able to add filer to only show me the HD channels in the guide.

Hope this helps someone with the same issue.

If you’re not paying for HD, you won’t be able to access HD channels. Have you gone to an HD channel or try to access On Demand

Not sure on the app what the high def numbers are - I've switched a few channels. It looks like BBC is in high def however the picture is boxed in and not taking up  the entire screen.  Still playing so not quite sure how to get to on demand with the new tv remote 🙂

Which remote do you have?  There should be an 'Xfinity/Menu' button which gets you to Guide, Saved, XFINITY On Demand, Apps, Search, and Settings.

What is the make/model of your TV?  Have you used your TV's remote/or buttons to look at its menu and settings?  It could be there is a setting (Picture->Aspect Ratio?) to set your TV to display HD.  4:3 Aspect Ratio is Standard Definition, 16:9 is HD for example.

So you're only viewing TV channels/shows from Comcast thru the TV's Comcast streaming app and not thru a TV box from Comcast?  What is the name of the plan you have with Comcast?

I have digital preferred w/sports package.  Haven't changed this in many years.  I would hate to do so as I have grandfathered channels that I still watch

When you get into the app, look at the guide and go to the higher channels and see if you have access. Network call letters will end in HD. Example ESPNHD. If you just access SD channels, they are going to look like SD, regardless of TV

Thanks for explaining the ratio for HD and SD - exactly what I needed!
