Picture doesn’t fill screen
Hi there. I have an issue where many of the channels on Xfinity Stream Beta App (on Samsung TV) don’t fill the screen. Most of them seem to be movie channels.
I cannot adjust 4:3/16:9/Fit to Screen settings as the Xfinity App locks this and the option is therefore ghosted in my Picture menu.
Its also nothing to do with watching SD/HD channels as the problem is the same on both from what I can tell.
Any ideas? Not much point having a big tv if the picture is boxed up in half the screen with black around it!

Hello, @user_2c8ae8. Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Xfinity Forums with your concerns.
Unfortunately it is dependent on what kind of content each network is broadcasting as well as the aspect ratio they are using. Often times for older movies and some local sports, they cannot be converted to a size that will fit many modern TV screens without skewing the picture. Because of this you may find some channels that broadcast content that has borders on the video. This is to be expected, but it's always worth looking to see if that channel does have an alternative HD channel where you can watch the same content at a higher quality. :)

If a movie was filmed for wide screen in theaters, it will still have vertical bars even in HD.

Thanks for the replies everyone but I think the issue I’m having has been misunderstood.
It’s nothing to do with the film being shot anamorphic and displayed on a 16:9 screen, therefore having black bars top and bottom - obviously I’m aware of this as it’s not the first time I’ve watched a film. It’s also not an issue of an older 4:3 movie having black bars left and right as this too is standard and I’m aware.
Its both of these!
The picture is shrunken into the middle of the screen with black bars on all four sides. Therefore enlarging it wouldn’t ‘skew’ the picture as it could be enlarged without changing the aspect ratio, until either top/bottom or left/right reached the borders of the screen. See what I mean?
Imagine putting a credit card sized image on a postcard sized screen and - proportionally - that’s kind of what I’m seeing.
It’s as if some channels on the Xfinity Steam are outputting an SD picture as an HD stream and therefore leave huge black borders all the way around the image, rather than it being enlarged to fill that space. Normally that’s fine as you can use the ‘Fit-to-Screen’ option to fix this, but the Xfinity Stream App locks this on a Samsung TV and so it’s ghosted with no way of changing.

I fixed mine by going to LIVE TV from the app and choosing the filter button on the top right then selecting HD. Then only shows that fill the screen are shown.

Why are there no resolutions to this?
I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden my streaming tv stations do no fill the screen. I am using the streaming app through Roku.

It’s October 2022 and I’m having the same issue. All other streaming apps Netflix, Prime, Hulu, etc all fill my entire TV screen EXCEPT Xfinity. And it’s all channels not just select ones.
Any suggestions? This is frustrating to only utilize half a TV screen

I am having the same issue on Android phones on a 2017 LG OLED TV with Google Chromecast dongle. However, there is no problem with my ipad. This is very interesting.
For now, I can only use my iPad to do the streaming

I have the same problem. So frustrating. My other streaming apps work great - YoutubeTV, Netflix, Prime Video. Why can’t Comcast Xfinity figure it out?

I am having the same issue. Noted that I filter for HD channels only….. all the channel lineups disappear. It’s like the app does not see any Hd channels. Yet if I load up a non xfinity App like ESPN…. Hd quality no problem. This appears to be an inherent flaw in a [Edited: "Language"] release of an app by xfinity

Either that or restricting HD is intentional for some reason
