Chromecast Device missing post upgrade

Since the last upgrade to Xfinity Stream I can only see 1 of my 2 Chromecast devices on Xfinity Stream. I can see the Gen 3 Chromecast, but not the Chromecast with Google Voice.

- I have uninstalled and reinstalled Stream.
- I have removed and re-added the Chromecast to Google Home.

@user_2f24ca is right on the money! First off, a special thanks to this user for posting this and helping our Xfintiy Community!

This is our official workaround for Xfintiy and this specific issue with streaming on Chromecast.

"Chromecast devices not being recognized in the latest Xfinity stream app update (7.0.0.2207).The updated app only recognizes one device on your network and its recognized alphabetically.  As an official work around, you need to rename your casting device on its supporting app (e.g. Google Home for Chromecast devices) so that its listed first.   I simply put an “AA” in front of the device name in the set up page that I wanted to stream to and its now recognized first by the Xfinity app and I can now stream to it. We will continue to work on our services and be sure to provide appropriate fixes to all concerns, but at least it enables you to stream to a TV of choice until the real update comes along."

For those following this thread on the saga of Chromecast devices not being recognized in the latest Xfinity stream app update (7.0.0.2207), while we await a new update from Comcast (don’t hold you breath), I discovered something many of you were hinting at over all the threads.   The updated app ONLY RECOGNIZES ONE DEVICE ON YOUR NETWORK AND ITS RECOGNIZED ALPHABETICALLY BY YOUR DEVICE NAME.   So, as a work around, you need to rename your casting device on its supporting app (e.g. Google Home for Chromecast devices) so that its listed first.   I simply put an “AA” in front of the device name in the set up page that I wanted to stream to and its now recognized first by the Xfinity app and I can now stream to it.   Its a temporary work around, but at least it enables you to stream to a TV of choice until the real update comes along.

@user_2f24ca   Thank you!!!  Not an ideal situation until Comcast decides to fix this, but it is a workaround.

Same here. My bedroom and living room tv do not show up in mobile stream  app to cast to. Both new chrome cast. It does show up on computer. I think this is the 3rd occurrence in the last 5 months we haven’t been able to cast for days at a time. Over a week at one point

Hello @user_6f5d93, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Here are some steps that have been helpful in resolving this concern.

  1. Make sure both the Chromecast and the Xfinity Stream app devices are on the same WiFi network.
  2. If you’re on your mobile device, make sure you’re logged into the Xfinity Stream app and not a Chrome web browser.
  3. For users on iOS 14+, you must give the app permission to find and connect to devices on your local network in order to see the casting icon.
    • Launch the Settings app on your device running iOS 14+.
    • Now, tap on Privacy.
    • Next, tap on Local Network.
    • On the next screen, you should see the list of all the apps that have requested permission to find and communicate on your local network.
    • Find Stream, and swipe or tap the toggle to turn it on, with green indicating that the feature is enabled.
  4. Make sure the Chromecast device is powered up and the LED is solid white.
  5. Make sure the Chromecast device is plugged into the TV.
  6. Open the Google Home App on your mobile device to see if the Chromecast device is displayed.
  7. Restart the Chromecast device.
    • Note: To manually restart your Chromecast, unplug the power cord from the Chromecast device. Leave it unplugged for one minute before plugging the power cord back in. (Unplugging the Chromecast from the TV’s HDMI port does not manually restart the device. It must be disconnected from the power source in order to manually restart.) If you powercycle the Chromecast device, it may take a few minutes before you can see it. The LED must be solid white, which indicates the device is ready.
  8. When the Chromecast device comes back online, log out then back into the Xfinity Stream app and retry.
  9. If that does not work, perform a factory reset on your Chromecast device, then set up the Chromecast device again.
    • Note: A factory reset will reset the Chromecast device to its default factory settings. This action will clear your data and can't be undone.

Only thing that work was the work around. Very sad that the source can’t fix it.

Same here and using iPhone12 v15.2 and xfinity stream version 7.0.0.   Still works on my ipad with steam version 6.12.0. {edited for violating forum guidelines}

Having the same issue. Only one Chromecast is showing up out of the two that I have.

I have tried Factory Resetting the Chromecast and restarting it multiple times.

I have multiple iPhones that are up to date and none of them are showing both of my Chromecast.

Hello and thank you for reaching out, and oh no! As a customer myself as well, I can only imagine how frustrating it would be experiencing these issues when trying to watch your favorite movies or shows. Our amazing team has been looking into the issue, and at the moment, we have found a temporary workaround while the issue is being investigated further. We are aware of the issue where Chromecast devices are not being recognized in the latest Xfinity Stream App Update (7.0.0.2207). The updated app now only recognizes one device on your network, and it is recognized alphabetically by your device name. As a work around, you can rename your casting device on it's supporting App (for example, Google Home for Chromecast devices) so that it is listed first. The easiest example on how to do this is to simply put  an "AA" in front of the current device name in the setup page for the device you want to use to stream, where you can "rename it" and it will then be recognized first by the Xfinity app, meaning you will again be able to stream or cast to your TV's or devices. This is again just a temporary update, until we are able to find a long-term fix that doesn't require this workaround. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we get this resolved for you and all our other valued Xfinity family members currently affected.

Same issue here.  Good to know I'm not alone.  I had several tv's with Chromecast and now only one shows up.  If I disconnect that one, then another one will show up???  This needs to be addressed.  Everything was working great, and now I can't cast to my TVs.

Same as others, re-booted my network, re-started my Chromecast devices, checked to make sure that I can cast to them via Rumble, Youtube, Facebook Watch - they all show up and work properly.   But one only one will show up on my the xfinity stream app.  Deleted and re-loaded the stream app.  Nothing helps.

I am able to find them on my computer and cast from my computer, but that's not that convenient, when you want to watch TV in your bedroom and you have to bring your laptop computer everywhere.

Dear xfinity - please correct this quickly!

Same exact issue here. I have 3 Chromecasts and now only one shows up. I thought maybe it was because the 2 that disappeared were Gen 1 devices so I bought a brand new one. Still unable to see this new device and can only see the single older one. FIX THIS NOW!!!

Same exact problem. Had to disconnect our bedroom chromecast in order to get the family room one to show up.

Me, too. About 2 days ago I was casting and it stopped in the middle of what I was watching. Since then my Chromecast device doesn’t even show up as a device in Xfinity stream app. But the Chromecast device can be seen by GoogleHome and looks to be working just fine.  I’ve reset everything to no effect. Wish I’d read these posts first.

Day 2 of the new stream update and still no fix for our Chromecast devices being recognized.  I spent over an hour on chat with agents yesterday to no avail.  Their end solution to me was they would notify their development team of this issue and I would need to wait for the next update.   Seems hauntingly familiar to the last release when our Chromecast devices wouldn’t “stream content” even though they would connect.    Then this morning I read that our bills will be going up in 2022 given all they’ve invested to make things better.   COME ON COMCAST … SHOW US YOU REALLY CARE AND FIX THIS NOW!

I am seeing the same problem here.  The renaming workaround does work but is a hassle.  Hoping for a quick fix!

Well I pay a lot for xfinity and use the beta app on my chronecast TVs but with the new Xfinity update one of my chromecast TVs is not available, it just dropped out. But all other apps live Hulu and Netflix do see it on my network.

The xfinityapp is mediocre at best but now I can’t even put it on my TV? Time to dump Xfinity.
