How to bring your own device (BYOD) to Xfinity Mobile (Answered)

***Updated 6/2/2026***

BYOD means you can use a device you already own with Xfinity Mobile. Instead of buying a new device, you just bring the one you have and update your network to Xfinity Mobile.

It’s a simple way to save money and keep using the device you’re comfortable with!

Keeping your phone number?

You can keep your current phone number when joining Xfinity Mobile. Xfinity accepts phone numbers from all service providers. You just need some account details from your previous service provider confirmation that your device isn’t locked, and verification that port-out protection is turned off. Go to can I keep my current phone number with Xfinity Mobile or NOW Mobile for details.

Note:
Customers who bring their own smartwatch or tablet can't keep their number at this time.

How to make the switch

You can bring your own phone, tablet, or smartwatch to Xfinity Mobile. Just follow the easy steps below to get started!

  1. Check your device's compatibility.
  2. Make sure your device is unlocked.
  3. Choose your data option.
  4. Get a SIM Card.
  5. Activate your device.

Check your compatibility

Notes:

  • Checking your device's compatibility doesn't mean you're signing up for Xfinity Mobile.
  • If your device has multiple SIM slots, we’ll check all IMEIs to find the best way to connect your device to Xfinity Mobile.
  • Only LG phones originally purchased from Xfinity Mobile are compatible.

Make sure your device is unlocked

Even if your device works with Xfinity Mobile, it also needs to be unlocked. When you check your device using the compatibility checker, it will tell you if your device is locked and if you need to contact your current carrier.

If your device is locked select how to unlock for more information.

Notes:

  • Your device may be locked if you still owe money on it, but you can usually unlock your device once you’ve paid it off. Check with your current service provider if you aren't sure. Apple users must complete a backup and factory reset after the previous service provider confirms that they have unlocked the device.
  • Once your device is unlocked, you'll also want to update your device's software before activating it with us to ensure your device works seamlessly with the Xfinity Mobile network.

Choose your data option

You’re free to choose the data option that works for you, when you BYOD to Xfinity Mobile. From here you can give your device a nickname, select if you’d like to keep your current number or get a new one, and choose if you’d like to add device protection.

Get a SIM

An Xfinity Mobile SIM is the key to activating your device on the Xfinity Mobile network.

  • Follow the prompts on screen to download your eSIM. If your device is not eSIM compatible an Xfinity Mobile pSIM (physical SIM) card will be shipped to you within two to three days of your order.
  • If you already have a pSIM insert the card to get started with Xfinity Mobile.

Notes:

  • If you’re new to Xfinity Mobile, billing for your line will start either when your SIM (pSIM or eSIM) is activated or seven days after your pSIM card ships, whichever is sooner.
  • If you’re adding a line to an existing Xfinity Mobile account, billing for the line will start:
    • eSIM: As soon as your eSIM is activated.
    • pSIM: When you place your order, whether the pSIM is activated or not.
    • Smartwatches have an eSIM in it. There’s no need to get a pSIM.
    • eSIMs make setup easier, safer, and greener — no physical card needed, just quick, digital activation.

Activate your device

For information on activating your device, see:

When you BYOD to Xfinity Mobile, your first monthly bill for that line will include a $25 one-time line activation fee for every new line added and activated. Smartwatches are charged a $10 monthly smartwatch fee.
