Xfinity TV Remote App going away
I just received an email from Xfinity stating that the Xfinity TV Remote App is going away as of 2/11/2025. This is unacceptable. I rely on this app not only to control my TV remotely for my aging mother who cannot change the channels but also to set recordings for TV shows remotely. Why would Xfinity take away a much needed tool from its customers? Please reconsider or offer an alternative that has all the same functionality for remote access and control when not at home where the TV box is located. I looked at the web browser remote and it is not an acceptable alternative. It is lacking most of the functionality that is in the Xfinity TV Remote App.

I’m glad everyone is posting how much better the app is. I too tried contacting them trying to explain why the app is better. Bottom line is THEY DONT CARE. The greedy owners are more worried about how much more money they can put in their pockets than the needs of their customers. They want to eliminate the cost they are spending on the upkeep of the app so they can keep it. Greed always wins!

This is terrible. I used this app all the time to browse TV listings and set recordings without disturbing other viewers in the room because it didn’t use the tv screen it used the phone screen. Telling customers to use the web app is not an equivalent or adequate replacement because it just turns your phone into a regular remote that controls the tv screen. I could just use the tv remote that came with the box for that. Bring back the app!

Here is the problem. Xfinity has poor communication. The TV Remote app isn't really going away. They moved it to the Xfinity Stream app and didn't notify anybody outside of saying they're shutting down the TV Remote app. They're very good on sending out How Did We Do emails when you talk to an agent but not on what they're doing or future plans are.

I agree with the rest of xfinity customers ( probably won’t be customers much longer)This is one of the most stupidest ideas yet that you’ve come up with! Sick of prices going up and services going down, I too am going to start looking into a new provider…..sorry!

The web remote sucks and is nowhere as helpful!!!paying over $300 a month and taking away useful features not a step in right direction.

That app was so convenient for assisting my elderly mother who had trouble changing channels. I could change a channel for her from my home 15 minutes away without driving to her home. Will there be an alternative?

Comcast and Xfinity have always ranked terribly low in customer satisfaction and it is easy to see why. Extremely high prices, poor service, poor customer service, etc. and now take away the method for controlling your DVR while away from home.
I wish I could convince my wife to dump Xfinity but it is our only choice for a TV provider.

Wow, I just tried to use my remote app and it didn’t work, so a google search brought me here. This is such an outrageous step backwards. Such a basic function that I’ve become used to while paying for XFINITY tv the last 8 years. And they’re just taking it away with no replacement??

I somewhat reluctantly am posting an update, only because I want others who have commented to have the information. I have found that I am able to use the Xfinity Stream App to do most of the functionality of the Xfinity TV Remote App when it comes to scheduling new records and viewing and managing existing records. If you go to the "Live TV" option, you can navigate to the date/time and channel you want to record and set the recording from there. If you go to the "My Library" option you can manage your existing "Scheduled" records or your existing "Recordings". You CANNOT use the Stream App to change the channel on your TV like you could with the TV Remote App. For that you have to use a web browser to go to remote.xfinity.com which allows you to control your TV. While I find this browser based option very cumbersome to use, it does work. It also allows you to change the TV channel when you are away/remote so those of us who want to change the channel for our elderly/tech-challenged parents can still do so.
Having said all this, I am still extremely disappointed with Xfinity for doing away with the TV Remote App which allowed me to control the TV and manage my DVR all from a single easy to use App. Now I have to use two different methods for this, and each one is way more cumbersome that the TV Remote App. Xfinity, please listen to your customers and bring back the TV Remote App!

Everyone needs to go on Facebook, X & Bluesky and every other platform Xfinity is on and let your opinion be heard.

Why would they do something THIS stupid?!?! 😕😒😤🤬 Unreal. Xfinity has become a joke!! From my understanding this is no comparable alternative either? Where we can view the guide, change the channel, as well as manage DVR recordings? Seriously fed up with xfinity

Xfinity and Comcast are not customer friendly as they take down the app the work well and force you to use apps that haven’t been throughly tested and don’t work consistently. Bring it back.

Go here and file your complaint with Tom Karinshak's Office. Deluge XFinity with your complaints.
Send Tom Feedback

I also called Corporate and was blocked from getting to talk to either Brian Roberts or Tom Karinshak's Offices. Totally unacceptable to my way of thinking!
