Why is xfinity tv remote app no longer available

Tried reinstalling xfinity tv remote app on my iPad.   It states it is no longer available.  My iPad is updated to newest system.

It’s disappointing that no “reason” is offered regarding the retirement of the remote app.  Judging from the comments it has been VERY popular so an explanation (such as “cost of support too high”, “planned upgrade Xfinity service (at a cost) would be pointless”, “Musk is on our BOD”) would seem in order.

Xfinity supplies a service that its customers pay for, service has gone down yet the price continues to increase.  I’ve also seen frequent adverts for Xfinity cell service touting how much it saves you.  Really?

We’ve been customers for over 30 yrs and I am searching out suitable substitutes.

Today I opened the TV Remote app on my smartphone and saw the message "We are unable to load your guide at the moment. Please try again later". I asked the xfinity assistant why my TV app is not working and it said it has been retired and no longer available for download! I am in complete disbelief, as I use the app several times a day, every day, and have been doing so for many years. I read through several posts in this forum and I can see my extreme displeasure is shared by many, many other customers. I have been a Comcast customer for decades and I must say this is the first time I am actually furious with a change Comcast made, and the January service price increase just makes it worse. Let me be very clear - the web app is NOT a replacement for the TV Remote app, since I can't search or view the guide on my smartphone screen either when not watching TV, or when watching TV which which is far better than using a physical remote, and doesn't block the TV program I am watching. The web app is useless since it does not provide the function above, and for the functions it does provide, a physical remote is better, so for me there is absolutely no reason to use the web remote. I hope Comcast comes to its senses and understands how bad of a decision they made on deprecating the TV Remote app, and restores full support for the app.

Hey there, thanks for your feedback, user_7nox20. The Xfinity TV Remote app is retired. It has been removed from the Apple Store and Google Play, and is no longer available for download. If you have the app installed on your mobile device, you will be unable to use it. You may find the app non-functional and/or may encounter various error messages when attempting to use it.

As an alternative to the Xfinity TV Remote app, you can use the Xfinity Web Remote for Xfinity X1, which is available on xfinity.com on any mobile device. The Xfinity Web Remote has many of the same features as the Xfinity TV Remote app did. Please note that the Web Remote is not compatible with Xumo Stream Boxes.

Another regular user of the app and another unhappy customer. My husband has been wanting to cancel Comcast for years but I have held off. But now with the price increase and the loss of the app I am thinking I will cancel finally.

@mpnret thank you for taking time out of your day to provide feedback. We're always looking for ways to improve as a company, and getting valuable feedback is helpful to know where we can improve. It definitely seems like the Xfinity Remote App was popular, and I've made sure to submit feedback for our corporate experts.

With the Xfinity App being discontinued you can utilize the web remote: https://remote.xfinity.com/

You can also still manage your DVR options and see guide in the Xfinity Stream App https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/x1-xfinity-tv-app-schedule-a-recording

I hope this information is helpful.

I’m very disappointed with Xfinity for retiring the remote app. I pay $385/month and I have been mostly happy with Xfinity, but I am having second thoughts about why I am paying as much as I am to a company that obviously doesn’t value the desires of its customers. The remote app was something that I use constantly while watching programming on Xfinity. I set up the alternative app that you recommend, and it certainly DOES NOT have the same functionality. Why retire an app that worked and obviously is desired by your customer base. I keep getting emails and mailers from Dish Network and until now, I haven’t considered switching. But my $385/month could go to Dash Network as easily as it goes to Xfinity. Actually they might make me a better set of options for what I am paying as they seem anxious for my business. I will be researching that due to your retirement of the app.

Stream app is worthless. No way to program the DVR from the Guide. I used it extensively when traveling. TV remote app is an invaluable tool for subscribers. Its loss quite frankly has substantially diminished the value of Xfinity TV service in an environment where rates were recently increased. This app must be brought back and soon! For the life of me, I do not understand this decision, and why was there no advance notice?

This browser thing is pure trash and doesn’t even make sense!! I use a browser to surf and do work not change my tv channel. Just another reason to switch to a streaming platform and leave xfinity except for the internet. I can’t even watch a Blackhawks game and am being charged for Chicago sports when it doesn’t even exist.

I don’t use safari or Crome so it’s just useless watching and having xfinity tv. Roku is the easiest replacement for cutting cable and saving money without the app

Logged in and the garbage webpage doesn’t work!! Bring back the old app that worked. This browser thing totally [Edited: "Language"] and has ruined my xfinity experience for watching tv!!

I think Xfinity is missing the point what most of us want is the ability to open the guide on our phones tablets or iPads all the options you propose are not the same. I agree with other users it might be time to dump after 40+ years Comcast. Very sad very sad.

Xfinity mods, is there an alternate way to control a dvr recording to play on a specific set top box like I was able to with the tv remote app?

My dad is elderly, has Parkinson’s, and cannot navigate all these menus, and with the TV Remote app, I was able to play the recordings to his tv remotely.

This is a very important feature for the elderly or people with other cognitive/physical issues.

Please either add this functionally to the stream app, or un-retire the TV Remote app.

Please.

Why was there not a notification (or did I miss it), before just dropping the remote app. There is nothing currently available to duplicate the services removed. This may be the tipping point for moving on to individual services, which I have serious considered in the past. It is not helpful to knowingly refer subscribers to apps or web services which do not provide the same services of this deleted app. With no justification, or alternative options, this is clearly giving your subscribers the [Edited: "Inflammatory"].

@user_sta999 I second this. Xfinity if you’re going to take away the TV remote app you should at least add its functionality to the streaming app. I don’t want to watch programs and recordings on my phone. I want to be able to control the TV with my phone and watch my recordings on it just like I could with the TV remote app. And NO the web remote does NOT offer the same functionality! The TV remote app was simple and intuitive. Everything else you have on offer is more complicated.

@user_marfqm Absolutely.  Every time I logon, er, try to logon - to Comcast, I have to remember my password (lots of different ones due to Comcast requirements) and answering questions about "if my account is up to date, verify this or that, do I want to do this or that, how about this?  can we interest you in special offers...?" I just want to check QUICKLY (QUICKLY) if SNL or The Rookie is new or a rerun for [Edit: Language]!  And I can't even do that now!  What [Edit: Language] is responsible for [Edit: Language] this simple, well-working app???! The deleted app provided a thorough updated listing of all programs on Infinity, with dates and times. It also allowed some interaction with the TV. Subscribers are now being referred to screens which act as a simple hand held remote. Certainly, you should not to surprised by subscribers displeasure and negative reaction, and feedback. We lost something which provided a very useful service, without warning, and hardly even an acknowledgment, without compensation.

Sending users to these claimed replacements apps/screens, which provide fewer functions than a simple hand held remote, lacks credibility. Please be honest and forthright, in stating these apps/screens are not a replacement for the deleted app, and in no way provide programming information, or allow users to schedule recordings. This really is big deal. Thank you.

The web remote app is in no way a suitable replacement to the mobile remote app, this was a stupid decision on Comcast’s part. Every time something like this happens, you’re making the decision to drop cable and just stream.
