XR15 remote has stopped working power on Sony Bravia

I have been using an XR15 remote with my Sony Bravia tv and Yamaha receiver with no trouble for years, but about a week ago it stopped turning off the tv.  I replaced batteries and factory reset XR15 and paired it but same issue still happens.  I have XR15 remotes in spare bedrooms so I tried same process on those but same problem each time. It is almost like the tv had an update and the remote has stopped communicating with Sony Bravia. Anyone else have this happen? I am using the Sony remote for power but would like to fix XR15. Thanks

Thanks for letting us know about this issue, @Mikibee. I see that @Rustyben included some instructions on how to get this working again. Have you had a chance to try these out yet?

@XfinityJoshuaE sorry but I just tried resetting the box and it didn’t work. Still experiencing the same problem. The remote will not control Sony Bravia power off. Is no one else having this problem?

@Mikibee I also have Sony Bravia and several times over the last few weeks I would turn tv / x1 on only to get an xfinity pop-up message that my remote wasn’t paired, and I couldn’t do anything until I unpaired the remote - the whole system was locked until I went thru the process.  This hasn’t ever happened for me before Sep. 2022. It was easy enough to unpair/pair, but really irritating and repetitive issue.
Between that and other issues with simply watching live tv, I ditched that  X1 box and replaced with a new one. So far, no problems with the new box.

But anyway, I am guessing you have unpaired and paired your remote more than once, but if you’ve only tried pairing it, without formally UNpairing the remote first, try that?
or get a replacement box

An on-going intermittent issue for set top boxes causes this problem after an update. the first reboot of the set top box fails to load its file information for the remote so it is not paired and not pairable. have to unplug the set top box for 30 seconds and then plug back in. the remote that was in use before would then work if it wasn't already reset. if the remote is working with the set top box, use voice command "remote" and follow the menu to make it work normally.
