Xid-p setup

Does xid-p HAVE TO have a cable connection since it is supposed to be wireless? I am in an older home where my cable outlets are in our great rooms and the smallest bedroom, where I have my Xi gateway. Should I just put the tv box in there or am I missing the obvious. (Electronically challenged)
