Xi5/Xi6 and User Owned Modem

I’m getting mixed messages on whether or not my router is the issue behind my problems.

I have a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 modem/router.

I initially had an Xi6 box connected via Ethernet cable. Every time I turned it on, I got the error code XRE-10007. After changing a channel or something, everything worked. The sports app never worked, with error code APPS-04233. On top of that, it had a pretty bad flickering issue, specifically when it came to instant replay during sporting events.

Chat with Xfinity tells me that I’m having these problems because I don’t have a compatible modem.

I go to the store and tell them that I guess I need an Xfi router, but am told no, the wireless boxes are compatible with anything and I probably just got a faulty box. However, they didn’t have any Xi6s and they sent me home with a temporary Xi5.

Set everything up and all of the same errors are still there, however, the flickering is totally gone (so far).

I guess I just want to know what the real answer is. Do I have to return my modem and give more money to comcast to get this wireless box to work properly or is this something else?

Do you have other boxes or just the wireless? What you need boils down to the plan and other equipment that you have

I also have an XG1 on my other (non-4K) tv.

Yeah with that setup, you can’t use your personal equipment. The Comcast gateway and DVR communicate and then the gateway and the wireless box communicates. You can either put the rental gateway back, get a cabled box instead of a wireless one or use a Roku and download the Xfinity Stream app.

You still need a Comcast gateway and DVR access and your account/tv services would significantly change

What if I also replaced the DVR with a wireless box?

I have the same issues. I have an X1 4K DVR box in my family room and two X6i-A boxes. The X6 boxes all have the same problems described above and I have a Netgear CM1000 modem, which is on Comcast’s list of approved devices. One of the X6i boxes now gives me a yellow screen and is unusable, this is the second box that has done this. According to Netgear my modem is DOCSIS 3.1 approved, but Comcast still thinks that is the problem. Very odd.

@ekkoville
It’s not odd at all. Your modem is on the approved list for internet service but not for using with the X1 video equipment (those are 2 way different things).

Can I use my own modem or router?
No, the Wireless TV Box can only be used with your Xfinity Wireless Gateway with bridge mode disabled. The Wireless TV Box will not work with customer-owned modems or Xfinity Wireless Gateways with bridge mode turned on.

Yeah I think “odd” was the wrong term. Frustrating is what I should have said. My house is 4000 sf and the Xfi modem will struggle to cover that, Comcast confirmed that to me. I am not sure that the Xfi pods will really help either, my brother in law has them in a house that is 1/3 the size. I just saw them tonight and he says there’s a lot of lagging while streaming games. With 5 people and 40+ devices on my network, I need something robust and that is why I went with UBNT gear. So I guess frustrated is the word I was looking for.

No, no bridge mode use with those boxes (it’s in the same link above). Your choices are using a wired cable box, a compatible smart tv and use the Xfinity Stream app or a Roku with the Xfinitt Stream app

I should also ask, if I replace my Netgear modem with a Comcast modem, can it be placed in bridge mode and still communicate with the Xi6 box? I presume no since it wouldn’t be handling the wifi.

Sorry to beat a dead horse on these boxes but does the Xfinity stream at 4K in the Stream App? So if you are watching live sports or the Olympic Channel, is it 4K in the app as it may be through the 4K boxes at home?

No there isn’t 4K through the app

I used my own modem, Arris Surfboard SBG7600AC2, and Xi6-A. It worked well.

After I add another Xi6-A, first Xi6-A has issue with XRE-03090 which I could not see almost channel with this code.  Second Xi6-A works well.  I tried affected Xi6-A and system refresh, but the issue has not resolved. How can I fix this issue?
