XG1v4 Worse Picture Quality than XG1v3

I have an LG OLED C2 4K tv with aftermarket 4K HDMI cable meeting the required specs for 4K (per Xfinity) and recently had new Xfinity service installed end of August 2023. They provided a XG1v3 box and after realizing I was not capable of 4K quality I swapped the box for a newer XG1v4 this week. I can now see the video output resolution to enable 2160p60 4K UHD. But after setting this, however, the picture appears grainy and the colors are less vibrant. I’ve read others suggesting moving down to 2160p30 4K UHD but that didn’t help. I’m aware that hardly any programming is available in 4K but even setting back to 1080p60 HD, the picture quality appears worse than what I had with the XG1v3 box. I even performed a system refresh via the Xfinity Assistant. Streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon are much more vibrant streaming from the TV apps versus the Xfinity apps so I’m doing that now but would like my broadcast channels to be better so I’m on the verge of swapping back to the XG1v3.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Did Live Chat with support and they ran advanced diagnostics. Manually unplugged both power and coax for 30 seconds. Appears a little better but still only on 1080p setting. Both 2160 settings do not look as crisp or vivid, oddly. I guess I’ll keep it on 1080p60 unless there is an actual 4K broadcast then try the 2160 settings. I’m still not convinced it’s not the XG1v4 box though.

The handful of live games in 4K HDR look great.  But, that's the only 4K content I watch on my Xfinity boxes.  I use other streaming platforms for other 4K content because they look better, support Dolby Vision, and the interfaces are more responsive.  So, if you don't care about 4K sports (there isn't much), then there's no reason to use the Xfinity 4K boxes.

Yeah I’m in a similar boat with watching 4K content using TV or FireStick 4K apps. I DO absolutely want to watch sports in 4K but as you mentioned there isn’t much available still. I was just curious if having the 4K box was actually a detriment to picture quality over the v3 box in case for some reason the hardware was not as good. I wouldn’t see why it would be but that’s why I was throwing it out here.

I didn't observe that when switching to the 4K boxes.  I played with setting them to output 1080 and 720 to see if the TV did a better job of upscaling, but it didn't seem to matter.

@user_vx26it Hello! Thank you for reaching out to us here on our Community Forum. The 4K Box you have is certainly designed to provide content in 4K when available. Commonly, 4K content will be available through streaming platforms as you mentioned whereas 4K resolution from a network channel is going to be fairly limited at least until it becomes more readily available.

The 4K Box you have may be able to increase the image quality, but it will still be limited based on what the network is broadcasting it at. You may want to look at HDMI cables that are designed for 4K content.
