XG1v4 Reliability?
I was having a problem with my XG1v4 frequently after being turned on displaying a "... One moment please" message on screen and nothing else. This problem had been going on for several months. I reported this problem in another post and Xfinity support worked with me to get my XG1v4 replaced. I swapped-out my suspected bad DVR with the replacement on 6/14/2026. Since then, I have not seen the "... One moment please" message. That is the good news. The bad news is that the playback of recorded programs has been highly erratic. I frequently am watching a recording, and I get say 30% into it and suddenly the transport jumps to the end and I get the message "You appear to have completed watching <name of show>; would you like to delete it?". I get various other erratic behavior where I am intermittently not able to rewind to the beginning of a recording or I'll be rewinding and the transport jumps suddenly to the end.
So, my question is: Are XG1v4 DVR's operating reliably for other DVR users? My understanding is that the XG1v4 is no longer being manufactured; thus, if your unit is defective and needs to be replaced, the only option is to replace it with a refurbished unit. Are there differences in the capabilities of some units, ie amount of internal storage space, or how it determines whether to record/playback from internal storage or from cloud storage?
Would I be better off with an X1 DVR? Do those work any better?

I have had two XG1v4 DVRs for several years and have not experienced the kinds of problems you describe.

Apparently my replacement XG1v4 is defective. It has now gotten to the point where most every recording I try to play back has some disruption that makes it impossible to view the entire program. I'm not sure what to do about it, ie if I get it replaced, I am not optimistic I will get any better results.

@user_3uwok3 Companion boxes are not 4K. XG1v4 and Xi6 are the only 4K boxes.

@bbdude The Stream app is for non X1 devices. It's not available on the XG1v4 or Xi6. Not a fan of the user interface and most content is limited to stereo.

Ok here is one more option I am thinking about: Run the Xfinity Stream App on a smart TV. My downstairs TV (the one I currently have connected to the XG1v4) is a Samsung smart TV, built in 2017. It is 4K, UHD, HDR, gets a great picture and is working just fine ... however, it is not capable of running the Xfinity Stream App. Apparently Samsungs built in 2018 and later are Xfinity Stream App capable. I would consider buying a new TV, but I wonder if it would provide the "unobstructed, clear view whenever you pause or scan through your recordings" as the XG1v4 and Xi6 does ... or is it more like the Roku where you can't see what you are fast forwarding or rewinding through and when paused the transport is always transposed over the frame. Anyone using the Smart TV option to run the Xfinity Stream App and if so, can you see recordings when fast forwarding / rewinding / paused?

I have an LG G2. FF on the Stream app shows nothing. The video freezes on the current frame and a progress bar shows that it's moving forward. Hitting play jumps to the new point in the recording.
