XG1v4 Reliability?

I was having a problem with my XG1v4 frequently after being turned on displaying a "... One moment please" message on screen and nothing else. This problem had been going on for several months. I reported this problem in another post and Xfinity support worked with me to get my XG1v4 replaced. I swapped-out my suspected bad DVR with the replacement on 6/14/2026. Since then, I have not seen the "... One moment please" message. That is the good news. The bad news is that the playback of recorded programs has been highly erratic. I frequently am watching a recording, and I get say 30% into it and suddenly the transport jumps to the end and I get the message "You appear to have completed watching <name of show>; would you like to delete it?". I get various other erratic behavior where I am intermittently not able to rewind to the beginning of a recording or I'll be rewinding and the transport jumps suddenly to the end.

So, my question is: Are XG1v4 DVR's operating reliably for other DVR users? My understanding is that the XG1v4 is no longer being manufactured; thus, if your unit is defective and needs to be replaced, the only option is to replace it with a refurbished unit. Are there differences in the capabilities of some units, ie amount of internal storage space, or how it determines whether to record/playback from internal storage or from cloud storage?

Would I be better off with an X1 DVR? Do those work any better?

I have had two XG1v4 DVRs for several years and have not experienced the kinds of problems you describe.

Apparently my replacement XG1v4 is defective. It has now gotten to the point where most every recording I try to play back has some disruption that makes it impossible to view the entire program. I'm not sure what to do about it, ie if I get it replaced, I am not optimistic I will get any better results.

@user_3uwok3  Companion boxes are not 4K.  XG1v4 and Xi6 are the only 4K boxes.

This Xi6 discussion is going off-subject a little bit, but it also happens my next area of inquiry. I am thinking about transitioning away from an Xfinity X1 / XG1v4 DVR's to using the Xfinity Stream App option running on either Xi6 or a ROKU Ultra box. I would want to be able to connect it to the internet via a hardwired ethernet connection (faster/more reliable than WiFi). I actually already have 1 ROKU Ultra (4800R purchased in 2021) box on my upstairs TV and I do have the Xfinity Stream App on that box I can use that to watch live channels or recordings, but I can't schedule recordings. If I get rid of my XG1v4 I would buy a 2nd Roku 4850 Ultra and work with Xfinity to change my plan package to record several programs simultaneously (more than 2).

One thing I have seen on the running the Xfinity Stream App on my existing Roku 4800 Ultra is that when using the Fast Forward, Rewind, and Play/Pause buttons, I can't see the content unobstructed by the transport (or at all) until I get back in play mode; eg if I freeze-frame a recording playback the transport stays superimposed over the picture (which is dimmed). Is that behavior the same with the Xi6 and/or smart TV's with Xfinity Stream App?

The great news is that the Xi6 box actually runs a sleek version of our native X1 system instead of the third-party app. Because it behaves just like your current DVR box, you get that same unobstructed, clear view whenever you pause or scan through your recordings!

Thanks XfinityQuemekia good to know. I see there is also the latest Xfinity streaming box called XiOne is that the way to go now? Does it also have that "unobstructed, clear view whenever you pause or scan through your recordings" behavior like you mentioned above?

bbdude The XiOne is actually for our Xumo/NOW TV customers and is not compatible with our X1 TV services. We would be recommending, more than likely, the Xi6 to use with the standard TV line-up option. You can check out the box options here, but please note that some are not compatible with all levels of service.

Ok thanks Amanda. There's some information on the internet that says the XiOne can access the same channels as the Xi6. Just curious, is the XiOne not an option as a replacement for the cloud recording/streaming capabilities and level of service of the Xi6 because of some hardware limitation of the XiOne, or is it just because Xfinity will not allow its use for that purpose?

@bbdude The Stream app is for non X1 devices. It's not available on the XG1v4 or Xi6.  Not a fan of the user interface and most content is limited to stereo.

Blslander -- Yes, I realize the streaming app is for non X1 devices. I was contemplating using the Xfininty Stream App with a Roku Ultra to replace my XG1v4. XfinityQuemekia mentioned above that the Xi6 has an "unobstructed, clear view whenever you pause or scan through your recordings" as opposed to the Roku/Xfinity Stream App. I am now also considering the XiOne since it is allegedly better than the Xi6. Is the XiOne now the successor to the Xi6?
