DVR recordings are pixelated and basically unwatchable. Watching the same recordings on the same TV using a Fire stick with the Xfinity app shows no such issues. Do we need to exchange the XG1v4 box?

The Stream app and the dvr are 2 different sources and aren't comparable. If it's on every recording it's most likely a hard drive issue and the dvr would need replaced. If those same channels being recorded are pixelated on live tv then you have other problems
There’s no hard drive in those boxes, they just stream from the cloud and send to your wireless boxes. Not a hard drive issue.

Yes there is a hard drive, your recordings are also saved to the cloud (that's what the stream app uses).
Well I guess that shows what the Xfinity customer reps know, store told me those lacked a physical drive
