Xfinity Stream & Amazon Fire TV Stick
Using Xfiinity Stream app with an Amazon Fire TV Stick and getting a location issue on some stations and a please connect to your in-home wifi (unknown SSID) on others. These messages are coming from the Xfinity Stream app. I am at home and I am connected to my home Xfinity WiFi and able to run other streaming apps (Netflix, Peacock, Prime, etc.) without any issue.
I've been through 3 different Amazon Fire TV Sticks with the same result. How does the Xfinity Stream app determine if I'm on my home network or not?

Hello, @kszczerba sorry to read Xfinity Stream is giving location issues on some stations please connect to your in-home Wi-Fi (unknown SSID) on others. Have you created an Amazon account and linked it to your compatible Amazon Fire TV device before downloading the Xfinity Stream app? Are the channels giving this error a part of a Xfinity channel package or free channels for non-Xfinity TV customers? Also, are you getting any specific (APP) error codes; for example APP-3329?
The Xfinity Stream app is available to all customers with Xfinity service, including Xfinity TV customers and internet customers without Xfinity TV. Features and content vary depending on your services. See the Eligibility section above for more details. Most Amazon Fire TVs and Fire sticks are compatible with the Xfinity Stream app. For supported versions, see Xfinity Stream app minimum system requirements. Visit the Amazon Appstore to download the latest version.

FYI -- after an extensive google search I discovered that there is a known issue with the latest version of OS on the Amazon Fire Stick 4K Select that makes it incosistent with the Xfinity Stream app. The work around is to get an older version of Fire Stick with the a compatible OS. That's what I did and I'm working just fine.
What is disappointing is that Amazon did not fully test all the apps (especially Xfinity Stream) to ensure full capability.

I've been having the same issue for a few days now. App was working but stopped after I chatted with Xfinity about an issue with my new gateway. They made some changes "on their end" attempting to fix the issue.

I’m having the same issues. One channel says “you can’t play this video within this market” and other channels say. “Please connect to your in home Network” which I am, and some work. This is on 2 new Fire stick 4K I just picked up. I have 3 older fire sticks and my phone that work with no issues. If I return these how do I get the older ones? I assume anything on the shelf is current versions. Could this be a difference between the standard version and the 4K version?

Same issue. 3 firesticks and 1 works fine and the other 2 wont play my local channels. Tells me to connect to my "in home wifi" even though I am. The other cable channels and all other streaming apps work fine work fine. 2 units are newer in the last 2 months and the one that works fine is about 6 months old. Frustrating! Maybe time to go back to YouTube tv

It's in the Xfinity app coding that they don't keep up on. Had issues with Apple tv 4k boxes using the Xfinity app only. Apps have to keep up with the streaming devices not the other way around. When I contacted Apple over Xfinity app issues, they laughed and said they have no way to fix this, only Xfinity can fix it. I had to switch to Youtube TV and all my problems disappeared, so they knew what they were talking about. I have 2 4k Max Firesticks that work perfect with every app.

The problem appears to be a firmware change in the "Select" version of the 4k Firestick, that Xfinity is sensitive to but the16 other streaming apps we use, are not. We found an older HD Firestick on Amazon and no longer have the problem. Xfinity better fix this when we get our 4k TV, or they will be dropped.
