X15 Remote won't pair to TV and Sound Bar at the same time

I just got the X15 remote when I upgrade to a 4K box to go with my new TCL-Roku TV.  My problem is in setting up the remote for the TV and sound bar (VIZIO).  The process works fine pairing with the TV.  However as a soon as I add the sound bar, it no longer is paired to the TV.  If I do them in reverse order (sound bar then TV), I loss control of the sound bar.  All I want for the TV is to control On/Off function.  For the sound bar, obviously volume and On/Off.  Any ideas?

This is the most brutal feed I have ever read. I have a sharp TV and a Sony soundbar connected to the tv with an optical cable. I have had this sound bar on multiple different TVs with the same outcome. Once pairing the soundbar the remote doesn’t work for the tv. Pair it for the tv, soundbar doesn’t work. If I see another generic response with a link to Xfinity remote support I may lose it. Xfinity - figure this out please. Sincerely, a very disgruntled customer

Hi! I'm not seeing any option to direct message you. But I'm also experiencing this issue with a 3rd party sound bar and the XR15 UQ remote.

I also have this problem. TCL TVs and Yamaha soundbars. The Tv won’t turn off/on after sound bar is paired.  The TV input button though on XR15 does work however. Also, this remote does work with my Samsung TV and Yamaha sound bar. Seems to be an issue with TCL TVs

abeasom, sorry to hear about the pairing issues! I would have to have about 3 separate remotes if my remote didn't pair to my TV and soundbar, so I totally understand where you're coming from.

It does look like the TCL TV and Yamaha soundbars are compatible with our remotes.

If you are still having issues, try to perform a factory reset:

  1. Simultaneously press and hold the A button [triangle] and the D button [diamond] until the status light on the remote changes from red to green. This takes about 5 seconds.
  2. Press 9-8-1 on your remote to complete the factory reset. Once this is complete you can retry pairing your XR15 remote.

Additional information about pairing your remote with your sound bar can be found here: https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/TV/ANSWERED-How-to-Program-Your-Xfinity-X1-Remote-for-TV-and/ta-p/2942606

@ComcastAlly After performing the remote reset, I still encounter the same issue everyone else seems to be having.  The power only works for the last device that was paired in the remote setup (a triangle button).  Previously, I was able to control the power on my Westinghouse TV and Sony sound are.  Now, I am only able to control either the power on the TV and then use the sound bar remote for sound or use the TV remote for power and the xfinity remote to control the volume and sound bar power.

Ken, I am having the same issue with a Samsung TV and a Samsung soundbar.  I have tried multiple times to locate the the "private message" button and have not been able to find it (even when signed in to myXfinity).  I am connecting the soundbar to the TV with the digital video cable.  I used to use the HDMI (arc) conncetion but that has worked intermittedly so Samsung suggested using Digital In.  Can you assist?

I followed the instructions to do a factory reset, then I went to setup and did all the general setup stuff.  It detected my TV and said it was paired.  Then I went to remote setup.  I was walked through the process to pair the TV (again).  Then I was asked if I ALSO wanted to pair the audio device.  I said YES.  Then I was walked through the pairing of my sound bar.  The first four codes did not work.  THe fifth one did.  Now both are paired :-).  When I turn the TV on the soundbard goes on as well.  Volume control on teh soundbar works too...

Have you tired pairing your remote again to your TV and sound bar using the instructions that (ComcastAlly) provided?

I did what ComastAlly suggested and it worked.  The problem I was having in the past was that the remote would work immediately after the setup but the next time the TV was turned on it no longer functioned.  I am going on two days now and loving only having to use one remote again!

Thank you for sharing your resolution with us all here, I am glad the steps (ComcastAlly) shared helped you and I'm confident the same steps will help others as well. Have a good day.
