x15 remote with xg1v4-a

I bought a new remote , Sofabaton U2 and its IR. They have Xfinity listed as it works. I was unable to get it working so I started searching. The box is RF and the remote I'm using is IR. I talk to Xfinity and they said I had to switch it from RF to IR and I could find all the information with Reddit. I asked for a link and was told she didn't have one. I did find a few posts and one was I needed to unpair the remote so I did that. Nothing.. I paired it back up. The next was go into settings and find remote and where it was RF change it to IR.

I don't have that option.  I went through I think all the settings and I don't see anything.  Yesterday I was on a chat for almost two hours and she sends me the same information I told her didn't work.  I saved the chat because its hard to believe what I went through.

All I want to do is use the new Universal remote.

Does anybody know what I am doing wrong?

@budeone Thanks for letting us know. Pairing can work a bit differently with a universal Remote. There may be some additional info in the remote guide to pair it with the box. Such as what version you should pick from this https://www.xfinity.com/support/remotes list, in order to use the right code on the remote. If not, then what is going on is the IR function and it should automatically work. You need a receiver or extender for that signal, to go from the uni remote to the box as you describe. Check out the details and how to approach it here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/using-your-remote-control-with-an-ir-extender. If those two tips don't get it connected, check out their forums to see if there are any specific steps to pair the universal remote to your cable box.

@XfinityBenny

Thank you for the response.  The remote company told me to download software but DONT touch and buttons and bring it the the cable box. It worked.. I have no idea how but it did. The problem I have now is the IR has to be within about six feet. It has a clear line of sight and its only about another four feet away. All my other devices work fine, just not the Comcast remote. I tried two sets of new batteries and its the same thing. I tried putting something under it like I read but it make no difference.

I looked at these IR extenders but there is nothing between the unit and the chair. Its a straight shot. I walked with the remote back and the other items turn and off without a problem to at least 15 feet. I ran out of room.

@budeone  That is great, glad to read it is working now. Hmm, what a strange result. The Xfinity remotes allow controlling the TV Box even when it's out of sight, such as in an entertainment center or in another room (up to 50 feet away). Can there be some interference or frequencies blocking the signal there? Does it still happen if the Universal Remote is unpaired from the box?
